    On board Camera

    G'day All,

There are sometimes when having an on board video camera in a car would be just so handy. I was coming back from Nambour heading to home this morning and driving through road works. Since I used to work on the roads I totally respect speed limit signs during road works. I had a New South Wales driver in a shiny blue newish Commodore up my tail the whole 5 klms of the section. This was real road works with graders, trucks rollers and bitumen layers and people on foot working. Not, as often seems to be the case now speed restriction signs and not a machine or a soul to be seen - not even on the edge of the road having smoko under a tree.

Anyway just before the 80 klm at the end of the road works moved up to 100 clicks I was in a single lane with double centre lines and 500 metres in front of me was an overtaking lane. Next thing I know was the blue Commodore nearly side-swiping me as he overtook me over the double centre lines. Then he rapidly disappeared into the distance totally disregarding the legal limit of 100 klms per hour. Times like these it would be nice to walk into the local Police station and give them a gift they can use to prosecute such ignorant prats who totally disregard the rules. These are rules in the case of road workers that protect people's lives as they go about earning a living. Vent completed.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Vent completely understood...

Sort of thing that happens all the time everywhere - the police either don't have the time or the interest to do anything about it unfortunately (at least in NSW).

Drivers even do it in the town 50km/hr streets around here, well exceeding the speed limits, they're in such a hurry.....

The only thing one can do is to be totally defensive and keep in mind to take a way out of a dangerous situation if possible.

    - and I agree that one of those cameras could be handy for one's own defence in case we don't quite make it out with our defensive driving

I had two incidences on the way home from work this arvo , and both times I wish my camera had been on.
Its got a blown fuse at the moment

But I wonder,, would the police actually do anything if you presented them with the footage?

A near accident, I doubt they'd worry, of course an actual collision, they'll be there anyway.
If it something to do with speeding, unless you can prove what speed you/they are at, I reckon it'd be the same,,, no action

Everything is for sale on E Bay or the right pub. That would be nice mounted in the chassis of the D2. tail gaters or lane choppers gone in a flash. My Christmas wish list is complete.

Imagine the revenue stream they could have if the Police had a website where you could upload videos of dick heads for them to look at. As mentioned, speeding would be a hard one, but overtaking while unsafe and running stop signs and red lights would be a no brainer. You would only need one person sitting in front of the computer typing up tickets... Would pay for itself and more...

    I posted this on youtube
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_CTzhbXPOA]Defender Dashcam near miss , Hilux Bogan - YouTube[/ame]

and sent the Goulburn LAC a link, despite the logistic issue with me being in Vic , the Hilux being ACT rego and the incident being in NSW , they arranged a statement next time I was in NSW (a few months later), I also furnished video from 5 mins prior and 5 mins later and they did proceed against the owner / driver

But I dont know the outcome

That's normal every day WA driving and wouldn't raise any interest from the cops. Anyway, why were you sitting in the right lane obstructing other drivers?
Why not pull over and let others, speeding or not, (it's none of your business if they are) go past without having to weave around you?
