A hook turn is not recommended at every Victorian intersection, :o only half a dozen or so in the CBD :). It's quite logical (unusual for Mexico :p), as it is fairly awkward for trams to steer round cars waiting to turn right. I was once nearly cleaned up by a taxi, running a red as I was making a hook turn. :mad:

Any where else in Aust public transport is just considered another vehicle and if someone is turning right in front they wait - so why is it so important for trams to always be allowed to proceed ahead - why can't they wait like everyone else?
The other one is cars have to stop when the tram is stopped - seems reasonable enough on face value but the kamikaze tram passengers seem to think it is their god given right to jump off the tram and bolt across the road without looking - yes the big MacK truck should have stopped but it didn't and the kamikaze got squashed.

Oh, and Mick is correct about how many Taxis get it wrong - that's because most of them cannot drive, and a lot of them don't even have licences.
If anyone needs a lesson, just sing out. I'm in the CBD most days and would average several hook turns a day - and never cocked one up either. :D
Oh, and there are 19 of them in the CBD.
We visited Melbourne when we went on a cruise, and I have to admit, we loved the tram system. I suppose the idea is to keep the trams flowing, if I was driving down there I think I would park out of town & tram it in, Bob
