Calling all non stick frypan experts

Going through various brands of so call non stick fry pans non over the years have lived up to their claims.
The last lot were TEFALs, paid lots of $ for the 2 we bought. Was told by sales lady never to dishwasher them. Nurtured them by hand washing but like all before, loose their slipperyness and stuff sticks.
These ones had a red dot in the middle that once it disappeared the surface was hot enough for cooking.
There's heaps of ads advertising every thing from stone coatings to other stuff.
Has any one got one that actually delivers what they promise and is still ok after a few years.

They all tend to lose the teflon coating, rust and become useless. The only one I've seen which is genuinely non-stick is a $90+ ceramic surface one which was at a specialty chef place...

My bro. trained at a top chef college in the USA several yrs ago and he only ever uses stainless steel pans...won't cook with electric hot plates...gas only...won't even entertain a teflon non-stick pan Reckons that like a lot of blokes I have the gas up too hot for too long He also favours cast iron ---using gas or open fire.

So, I started to use a heavy base stainless pan on the gas watching the heat carefully and ...success. Don't use teflon pans anymore.

I've never had any success with non stick frying pans.
Have gone back to cast iron.
I clean them with running hot water and one of those washing brushes and then dry them on the hotplate(gas),just like the asians with the woks(got one of those as well(stainless steel).

    cheers

I use a heavy base stainless pan most of the time. For those times where I need a non stick surface, I have a cheepy teflon coated jobby that I treat as almost disposable. I probably change it every 12 months.

Cast iron if treated right will become non-stick after a year. If you dry it on the stove and oil it straight after it will last forever. I've had mine the last 10 years and still going strong. Have also purchased a heavy based stainless pan to try as it is larger.

Teflon is yet another scam inflicted by the US industrial complex (this time DuPont) in order to keep consumers "consuming", it's how they want the economy to work, with everything requiring replacement sooner rather than later.

Gee, if they sold the frying pan (even the term "frypan" grates somewhat) or whatever without the coating it might last the lifetime of the buyer !

A worn or scratched teflon coating renders an item useless immediately if you value your health.

DuPont's & other manufacturers' advertising link it to "space" and "NASA" to help us believe that if we use it we are at the forefront of technology yet it has little application in that environment either.

I must acknowledge that it does have other refined industrial and medical uses as well, but coating cookware with it seems like planned obselence to me..........
