    A frame ball joint

Replaced the A frame ball joint on the disco last weekend, boy did it make a difference to the car. No more slack in the drive train and the car handles and corners like new. Been meaning to change it for ages. You couldn't hardly feel any play in it on the car or off

Yeah quite a few people i have spoken to reckon it is a really good way to get an older disco back on track. One guy i had spoken to was being driven up the wall with drive train clunks and was impressed no end when he did his. he also reckoned he could feel bugger all slap in it when it was out.

    a frame balljoint

    8) re this a frame balljoint, sounds like my disco needs it too. Where did you get it and emmachisit? Was the rear end sorta like happening with a big clunk some time after you bunged it into go forward after reversing?

    Guys
the hardest part about changing it is getting it out of the forged steal bracket in the A frame. It only takes about 10 min to get the bracket out of the car. The joint is pressed into the forgeing and they are tight. I find the easiest way to get them out is to heat the bracket till it almost glows and then about 4-5 blows with a lump hammer does the trick. I have tried to press them out without much success. Ok how much, Landrover are about $170, Maxi drive adjustable (Goldcoast) $120, MR automotive $120 but this is already fitted in the bracket and is sold on an exchange basis and Thompsons auto parts at Wynnum have adjustable english made ones for $60. Thompsons is owned by Tweed Brake and Steering. By the way you need to press them in, you could maybe do it in a good vice.

    Freelander

Hay I am looking at buying a freelander (new) and would like to know if there are any reviews about them anywhere that I can look at good and bad. Some of the guys I work with have said only bad things. So if you could help I would really appreciate it.

How did we get on to Free landers. Anyway I like the look of them and they drive well. The TD4 is a good thing they reckon but like any light weight they are a compromise, but no more than RAV4s and Honda CRv's.
I reckon they are a bit expensive but so are RAV's. I often thought that I would like to buy one for the wife rather then let her swan around in the Disco. However I can't afford 2 and I want a proper 4x4 and I get Commodore (soon a BA falcon to drive from Ziggy). Most people will put **** on freelanders, 1 because they are not a Toyota and 2 because they are not a toyota. My sister has a new CRV which is a nice car, but in deep sand the snatch strap and a Disco is often needed.

    Too true shaun,,
I followed an explorer(worlds best selling 4 wd) the other day and like the rav and crv, it had the same problem, this silly radius(locating) arm that runs to the bottom of the wheel,,
    no wonder they get stuck.
