CANNING STOCK ROUTE CATTLE DRIVE - 2006
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Alfred Canning commencing his survey of the famous and remote Canning Stock Route in Western Australia, a re-enactment cattle drive from Halls Creek to Wiluna is being organised for 2006.
The trek will cover over 1500kms between the two outback towns where all attending will have the experience of a lifetime crossing the heart of Western Australia.
Expressions of interest are invited from people interested in participating in the stock drive. At this stage the drive will be broken into sections of three to four days riding under the watchful eye of experienced Outback drovers. The pricing, which has yet to be set, will include transfers to and from camps, all meals and a welcome pack consisting of maps, some history on the CSR and memorabilia.
Many travellers on the CSR in recent years will have noticed quite a few wells being reconstructed in preparation for this amazing journey. Ken Maidment along with others such as Mr CSR himself Eric Gard and various 4WD Clubs have all participated in the well reconstructions. The re-enactment committee are looking for as much help from 4WD Clubs as possible to get the maximum number of wells functioning for the event. This will not only facilitate this trip but will mean travellers in years to come will also be able to appreciate the CSR in all its glory. Anyone wishing to help restore any wells on the CSR, please contact Ken Morriss on the details below.
Please send your expression of interest including a brief run down of why you would like to be involved in droving cattle on the CSR, and any Outback experience you have, to Ken Morriss at 1447 Stumpy Gully Road, Moorooduc, VIC 3933 or email at twhirler@satlink.com.au or to Patrick Henry, 64 Havelock St, West Perth, WA 6005 in writing or via email at patrick1@iinet.net.au
