Anyone know if there is a thingy

I gave the freeby l.e.d camplite to the Bloke next door, he's mounted it in the cockpit of his 8mtr boat.
He gave me a new 7ltr cooler that plugs into the ciggy lighter. Ta. Offered him the lite as an unwanted gift, following week he offered me the thingy.

Now, is there an adapter that runs 240v down to a 12v ciggy lighter socket so that I can plug the cooler into it to cool at home before I go off with it in Me Disco ?

    Ta.

You can get a 240V wall socket with a built in cigi socket for just this scenario, should be able to get one from the usual auto stores or jaycar .

Thanks, I will have a look. I saw some of those things on google but they mentioned 3amp.
The SIL pinched me cooler for a week away so I dont know what amp's it might run.
I was hoping someone might know.
Those ciggy splitters, two into one are 10 amp but I dont know about adapters,

    Thanks.

If it's a cheapy thermo-electric (peltier) cooler, you could probably get away with putting an ice brick in it for a few hours. If it's anything like my cheap unit from Dick Smith, they don't work very well (about 20 degrees below ambient.). Maybe good for keeping water a bit cool at best.

Hopefully yours has a proper compressor

Sounds like the OEM cubby box chiller in my D4, O.K to get 4 cans cool if you're driving a 100Km or so, but not much good for storage. The best use is to keep cool drinks cool on a long drive.

Me thinks its because it was designed by pomys for use in pommy land. Maybe its to keep drinks liquid in snow?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

[QUOTE=Lotz-A-Landies;2007532] The best use is to keep cool drinks cool on a long drive.

Would also be good for those that need to keep medications cool while travelling possibly.

Thats what I will use it for if I get it back.
I need to drink a lot of water to keep me kidneys wet. I dont want another 12mm stone like the last one thanks.

I have a smaller cooler bag that I use with freezer packs when I go shopping but it is useless on a longer trip. I would like to cool it first before I put it in the car.
I think I found the thingy at Jaycar. I will wait untill it is back in my possesion before I buy one.

12 volt power supplies are pretty common, jaycar should have plenty of variety, all you need is one with a big enough amps rating and wire it to a ciggy socket as required.

That's what I used to use years ago for a similar little cooler for keeping beers cool downstairs before I got a little bar fridge down there. It's easier to get a cig lighter socket and attach some leads to it than to clamp the charger leads directly to the plug.
