I thought other states had "saftey camera's" as well?

Careful with the red light camera's, go through a red light, get snapped, get a fine, had the foot down to make the orange but did a red, speeding, get a second fine, car rego run out? camera picks that up too and get a third fine!

Then again dont speed, dont run lights and make sure your car is rego'd.

Close to my house there is a "Safteycam" instalation, check's all rego's for everything going through it and only does heavy vehicles for other stuff.

I know Vic has the same point to point setup's as well but haven't been to other states recently.

Yep the South Australian Government is all about looking after yours, and mine, Safety

And the safety is to release us of the pressures of having too much money in our wallets, or bank accounts, after all we live in a place where everyone has to contribute fairly to the running of the state..... just some more fairly than others.

Or look at it another way... South Australia is broke.... what is the easiest way to make money quick... fine and tax the public for everything, and make the fines horendously large compared to other states.... their thinking is that if they make the fines large, then people wont commit the crime in the first place.... how wrong they are... or is that smart? I will let you decide.

    Cheers

The State Govt here has, in its widom, stated its intention to outsource the work of the snap happy brigade. Now I'm not being cynical BUT, when you want to sell a business...obviously the books have to look good...so they reduced the "over-the-limit" tolerance for various speed limits and guess what... the bookings for exceeding 60kmh have risen 23% in a few weeks. According to the local press, even the coppers are shaking their heads (presumably side to side rather than up and down ) I read today that in Victoria, approval has been given to hide cameras etc to protect the operators... and place cameras at the bottom of hills etc etc etc... even where there's no evidence to support such a move... It may be "legal", but when one's moral compass is jetissoned and statute law takes its place, then we have a community demonised by "compliance" ...which is great for yet more lawyers who earn their living wading through all the red tape. It's interesting that in the state of Montana in the USA, open road speed limits have been abolished, but, you can be (heavily) penalised for not driving appropriately to the conditions. Full marks to legislators who credit the general population with some common sense! (end of rant)

It's not a tax, Basil. Technically it's a bribe. Money you pay to avoid going to court and possibly paying a fine.
