Whilst on my travels recently I generally didn't know where I was going to be ending up at in the evening until about half way through the day.

When I did Google searches for "camp site near [wherever]" I would get results from several forums where the original post was: "Hey, I'm going to be going to [wherever] next week. Does anyone here know of any nice places to camp in the area" and on more occasions than I can remember the first reply was "Sorry Mate, I've never been up round that way so I can't help."

If you can't ****ing help or have nothing useful to add, don't ****ing reply.

I'm quietly hoping this reply doesn't turn out to be a regrettably excellent example of irony.
Sorry mate, I've never replied to a comment like this before, so I can't help.

Imagine if your theory worked in verbal conversations:
Person 1: " Hi mate, how have you been lately, hear about the weather in QLD?"
    Person 2: ......
Person 1: "oh you must not have anything relevant or helpful to say, so I understand why you have remained quiet"

I think a lot of community based posters on forums just like to feel involved and 'chatty', so even though they have nothing to say, they would like to say that they don't. This indicates they are not only following what the original poster had to say, but is thinking about the topic itself, and referring to the fact if they normally comment a lot on certain topics that it may be directed to them, and are identifying the fact they don't know, and aren't being rude by not answering.

Anyway, who is taking what people write on the internet as gospel?

Did you know that 97.6% of statistics posted about on forums are false and misleading?

Just to enrich my knowledge, do you have any statistics of newspapers and magazines about this matter?

I see most people see this as a threat to their opinions. It was not meant to offend anyone or make rules it was a question. That is all .From the replies I have seen most people rely and reply on emotion not fact. Somany kids are conceived into dysfunctional families etc but we do nothing. Ifyou are happy to accept that, fine it makes my case stronger. It is not a comment on you it is just a comment get over it.

    depends on the forum.
i find this forum to be ultra conservative, full of crybabies who are unable to understand humor. they are like grey nomads.

a threat to their opinions. true but a PITA when you want facts and not misleading opinions. IE a poster asks, how do i get my center diff out. reply's are "the back" wallys. anyone giving correct information is made to look foolish by those with opinions!! and better word smithing skills. a bit like an ongoing thread where posts are just copied and pasted from another forum or reworded along with copulas amounts of scanned pages from a book. of which 99.9% of readers have no clue of what is being posted. but every one bows down and if the posers are all knowing gods. the guys who do Know are busy doing and not posting.

and yes i have a kid, great guy " minime "
