Thread: Club Permit Registrarion

On the national Veteran rallies, cars from all over the country and even overseas drive on their club permit, in all states. There haven't been any issues in the Veteran cirlces, which is where the club plates came from originally.

It is a historic scheme so the car has to be over a certain age, 30 in NSW, think it's a bit less in Vic.

I think the permits aren't recognised in WA.
I'll do a little research to confirm.

Here in Vic., we have a poorly known and understood road safety regulation.

Exemption for vehicles temporarily in Victoria
131. Exemption for vehicles temporarily in Victoria

A vehicle is exempt from the requirement to be registered if-

(a) the vehicle is in Victoria temporarily; and

(b) the vehicle is-

(i) registered in another State, a Territory or a foreign country; or

(ii) permitted to be used in accordance with a law in force in another
State or a Territory relating to the use of unregistered vehicles
(including a law relating to trade plates); and

(c) the vehicle is carrying, conspicuously displayed in the required way
and condition, all number plates and labels that it is at that time
required to carry-

(i) for a vehicle registered outside Victoria, in the State, Territory or
country in which it is registered under the law of that State,
Territory or country; or

(ii) for an unregistered vehicle permitted to be used in another State or a
Territory, in that State or Territory under the law of that State or
Territory; and

(d) for an unregistered vehicle permitted to be used in another State or a
Territory, the vehicle is being used in accordance with any conditions
of any permit or other authority that apply in that State or
Territory, to the extent they are capable of being applied to the use
of the vehicle outside that State or Territory.

I wonder if other states have a similar rule.
If anyone knows, could you please post up a link to the relevant state legislation.

Thank you for your inquiry requesting information on WA recognition of concessional licences in any other State or Territory of the Commonwealth.

I confirm that vehicles registered in any other State or Territory of the Commonwealth licensed under a Historic Conditional Registration Scheme can be driven in Western Australia without any need for a permit or any other special arrangements. This is provided for under the WA Road Traffic Act 1974 Part III Licensing of vehicles, part 15, which states:

15. Vehicle licences
(6) For the purposes of the provisions of this section a vehicle licence or equivalent document issued in any other State or Territory of the Commonwealth for a vehicle of which the owner is not ordinarily resident within the State of Western Australia shall, during the currency of the licence, be deemed to be a vehicle licence under this Act in respect of the vehicle when used on any road within the State of Western Australia.

Essentially, this is because the vehicle is actually registered, and not just being driven on a permit. Please note that registration plates and labels are required to be affixed, and it is helpful if the owner carried the registration papers with them.

Yes. It is old. The important bit is in the wording. "Registration".
The Victorian system is not "registration". It is a "permit".

Have a look here. Question 9.

Have looked through the Act and two sets of Regulations and have not found anything so far regarding interstaters.

Club permits are club permits. If your club has an interstate trip, this sort of issue will be sorted out beforehand.

Max. In Vic you can drive the vehicle any time you like, up to 90 days in a years. It does not have to be a club trip.

The reason for my OP was that I often holiday on the Vic/NSW border and I plan to purchase a series and use it for my holiday on club rego.

The club my 101 has a permit with is a different marque of vehicle. They would never attend an AULRO promoted event such as Corowa.
Our permits are valid for 45 or 90 days wether it is a club event or not
Our permits are, we're told by the AOMC, valid in every state or territory except WA (but who in their right mind wants to go there).
