I did a deployment with the UN.
If you want anything sorted out in a short time DO NOT involve the UN!!!

I think the UN motto is:- "HURRY UP AND WAIT"

As I said I believe that an offer to place the wall into the care and custody of the AWM would be most likely acceptable to all parties, its just sorting that out for permissions would be good....

If a Tele programme did a special report, and as part of that approached all the parties (eg approach the relevant US/UK/Dutch/NZ etc persons for their 'opinion') this may slice through a heck of a lot of red tape and official approaches etc as it would bring it all to a head I believe.

The names of all the fallen Australians are also on a very nice memorial in the Aussie lines at Al Minhad Airbase (AMA I was honoured to have attended ANZAC day there in April. This memorial is coming home. Every Soldier that deploys to Afghan moves though AMAB and gets to see and reflect at that memorial.
The memorial in TK is huge. And comprises 6 T-walls each weighing several tonnes. The only thing for certain is that it should not be left in TK where it may be desecrated in the future.
Really, The wall is of little importance, the memory of the names placed on it is the important factor. And that is taken care of. The families have seen the land that holds the blood of there sons, brothers and fathers. It should be their decision now.
However, it it was up to me, Id bring it home.

    Nino.

There is the Avenue of Honor at Lakeside near Yungaburra for the fallen in Afganistan.
I would think that the TK memorial would make a fitting backdrop for the low plaques and sculpture.
As stated it is carved into the blast walls. A stark reminder of the level and type of force brought on bear on ourwarriors.
Even if the uprights with the names were cut of the massive bases and reconstructed at home, that would save at least 60% of the mass and fuel/ load space.
I agree, going direct to the Consuls General of France and the Netherlands and seeking approval is the best start.
    Anyone got their contact details?
    Cheers, BDave.
