you can connect a short string of 3 led lights to the existing wires
that should do the trick there is plenty on ebay
hope that helps gibby
The light for the rear license plate on the Defender is cactus !
Rather than replace it with a genuine (or copy) item - I was wondering if there are any alternative solutions.
Ideally a number plate frame with a couple of smaller subtler built in lights ?
There are a few on ebay US BUT they aren;t the right dimensions to suit Aussie plates.

Vlad, you will find a lot of people on this site who resist what I call "cultural colonisation" by the USA via their entertainment industry. Apparently someone in the W.A. Dept. of Transport is unable to resist that influence.
BRITISH cars have number plates, old boy.
In answer to your question, have you looked at number plate lights for motorcycles, or maybe go "retro" with a couple of '50s style Lucas number plate lights?
Maybe something like Ebay item number 221151632786...![]()
Got some similar to those - ta !

Paint the inside of them whiteor you could glue some silver oven wrap inside them,I have one of those as original fitment on both my 2a (the originals had 2 bulbs 12v-5watt) and the S3 Lightweight, both give good illumination of the standard Qld plate, the 2a is old style white numbers on black,= OLR-068 and the S3 is Maroon on White reflective, both readable at 50 metres+
Narva do one in the original Lucas style in chrome lookalike P/n 86060 there could also be a black one, it depends on what you want to fit it to,if a trailer you have a wider choice, but to a Defender it is the Lucas type,to a Aussie bodied 130 you could use one of several different types, pop down to your local REPCO and ask for a look in their Narva Catalogue, and on page 272 will be the listing,(I have a cattle dog)
Any of the Festoon globes can be substituted for LED's, I have replaced all my interior lights in the Rangie and Disco 1 with LEDs from Incisor's shop, brighter, and next to no power draw, WARNING:can not use as Stop/Tail when fitted with Cruise Control, not enough draw to disengage Cruise
cheers
I bought a pair of white LED ones that go each side of the plate - ought to look schmick !
Thanks all.
P.S. UncleHo - cruise control ?Isn't that the right pedal ?
