    Black Hole

How many others have a black hole in their shed where things just disappear without trace? I thought I left mine behind when I moved 10 years ago but alas, it has followed me. Last week I had to replace the throttle cable on my grandson's quad bike. I purchased the new cable and associated hand grip and got started. Fitted the throttle grip and ran cable to carby. This is where the black hole came into play. The screw cap had to be removed from the top of the carby along with the spring, washer, sliding block and needle. I knew that the spring is under pressure so I removed the cap carefully. ALAS. I gently removed the mechanism to unhook the old cable when I noticed something was missing. The needle had disappeared from the block.!!! No amount of searching on the concrete floor brought this darn thing to light. I looked, my wife looked (she recons I am blind) and my daughter looked. All to no avail. 3 days and $9.95 for a new carby fixed the problem. I didn't change carbys, I just swapped the needle from the new carby and problem solved. HOW DO I GET RID OF A BLACK HOLE? (Don't say paint it white)

    Jim,
I whole heartedly sympathise with you.
Nothing I hate more than the time wasted looking for something
"that I just put down a minute ago"

I have found the best way to prevent it when starting a specific project is clean a workbench completely prior to starting said project - even to the point of grinding back to clean steel and re-oiling it...

This way as you pull the carbie/caliper/hub etc etc apart all the pieces can be layed out on a clean surface... But then of course I will still wander over to the linisher, touching a few parts up, leaving said part next to the linisher, then spending the next 40 minutes searchig for it (and cussing) on the nice clean workbench!!!!

    Magnetic parts dishes/trays are fantastic!
You can even have then standing on their side and as long as all the bits and pieces you are putting in them will stick to a magnet you are laughing.
The trays are about $7-10 each at auto stores etc.

    Cheers, Mick.

I too have a black hole, mine is actually linked via worm hole to the laundry where my socks & jocks also disappear without trace.

Maybe someones black hole will materialise your carby needle?
I find mine spits out what it took many months after I no longer need it.
As for the socks & jocks.......

Ive also got one in the back yard and the driveway, spent many hours searching for a valve collet, its easier to rob parts off spares[spare 300tdi and auto/spare jag 4.2 and auto/spare matchless engines etc etc]

Usually those items that disappear into the black hole seem to magically reappear very soon after the replacement item has been purchased.

Wife's engagement ring went missing for 18 months - reappeared 2 days after we submitted the insurance claim.

I think the black hole also incorporates a memory erasing signal. It's 25metres from my carport to my workshed and when I get to the shed I don't know why I'm there. So I walk back to the carport and then remember why I walked down to the shed. Funny how once I'm out of range of the black hole the memory floods back.

I have a black hole on my Disco 2.
I have been looking for my multigrips I found them 2 days ago, in between my Radiator and the condenser, that black hole also held my wire stripper/crimper.

but the black hole claimed a new 10mm ring spanner shortly after, Even with the grill out, radiator , condenser, oil and trans coolers out, the bottom stone guard removed, head lights out and virtually every conceivable hidey hole exposed, the black hole sent my ring spanner into the never never. I did stick my hand into every nook and cranny but was worried that the dark matter in the black hole would suck me in also, so gave up.

I think black holes are genetic thing that aligns with the Y chromosome.

I have mine in the garage as well, but I'm sure it is able to transform and pop up close to wherever you happen to be.
