defender 90 second spare wheel mount

On the only trip I didn't take 2 spares, I staked a tyre to the point of being un-repairable on day 2 of 15!

You're 100km into a 500km leg and do a tyre. You now have no spare so do you push on, repair the puncture or backtrack 100km to get a replacement?

My customer with the wheel on the bonnet of a Puma was well informed of the legalities. The bonnet mounted wheel carrier was specified as 'for off road use only'. ;)

"For off road use only" is a nice concept but what does it actually mean? It certainly would not be applicable to any public land including a road, state forest, national park or even a beach. It would probably not apply to leased crown land that is leased except that which is leased in perpetuity (akin to freehold). Indeed it may not apply to freehold land that is not fenced or similarly enclosed. Does quite limit the area "for off road use only"! And even the fixtures that are to hold the tyre on the bonnet may be problematic, not only the tyre.
