Surely a complaint to the NP Rangers would fix this - failing that a late night rope around the tent connected to the tow and a little drive might also fix it![]()
A family group, presumably Latrobe Valley locals, set up their family tent last summer at a spot in the Baw Naw National Park that we have been frequenting for over 25 years. They left it there for the whole summer, effectively claiming the place as their own property, seemingly spending a couple of days there at a time. I passed through on 2 occasions when they were present (obligatory GQ and kids with rat-tail haircuts) and several occasions when there was no-one around but the camp left to look like they were just out for a drive.
This is a place that really only has room for one group, so by them staking their claim, they had excluded any other persons from enjoying this spot for the entire summer. As I said, we have been enjoying this spot for over 25 years, particularly as a day-trip spot to take visitors to for a bit of a bush experience, as it is not far off the main road but only accessible via a steep 4wd track. We also pass through there enroute to other bush haunts.
I went through after they had left. There were mounds of empty bottles and various garbage bags and disgusting piles of rubbish that these people had left behind in the bush. There is no longdrop or anything else, so the surrounding bush was littered with their toilet paper.
I'm fully expecting these people to do the same again this summer, and ongoing if they can get away with it. Wondering what others would think is appropriate action (a) when going there and they are present, (b) when going there and their stuff is there but they are absent, and (c) with regard to the authorities.

It amazes me how feral some people can be, hogging the campsite for the whole summer is one thing, but leaving all your rubbish and filth behind is even worse in my opinion.
not sure what can be done though, if they are there again, call the park rangers I suppose? get there rego and report them?
I like Garry's idea with the rope and tent, but would advise against this. . they may attack you with there rat tails :|

Makes you wonder how they live at home. A chat to the Rangers would point you in the right direction, don't do anything foolish, you'll be just as bad as them. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
I'd either speak to the rangers, or stage some sort of Scooby Doo type ghost haunting and scare them off.
Accidentally flick a match at the tent, or carefully place a glass bottle so it spontaneously combusts, then be the hero and put it out with a fire extinguisher![]()
Do them a favour and pick/scoop up ALL of their rubbish and deposit it inside their tent, Regards Frank.
report it to the rangers and the police in the first instance - then if nothing done bundle it all up and take it down the nearest tip.
