im guessing you went though regency?
Hi Guys
I recently purchased an ex military Perentie from the Adelaide auction and am trying to get it through the pits, the inspector has failed it on 2 items:
1- Steering not returning to centre ( maybe box adjustment required)
2- Needs an ignition key and steering lock.
Ok item 1 I'm fine with but item 2 I could not except as I was of the understanding that if an item was factory fitted then it was deemed not a modification.
I rang the AIS and was told if I could prove it came out o the factory I did not need to change the lock, in the end I rang Colin at Frontline Military and received the following email-
Hi Ian,
In response to your enquiry to ignition key / locks to landrovers. I quote the following ADR written in the rules for authorisedinspection stations for new south wales.
ADR 25
REASON FOR REJECTOIN
The vehicle is not fitted with an ignition lock which incorporatesan anti-theft setting
Noted in the ADR that this applies to NA category vehiclesbuilt after 7/92
If your vehicle is built prior to that date, you dot requireignition lock.
The land rovers were built by land rover for the Australianarmed forces without ignition locks.
We have had no issues with registration of vehicles innew south wales.
We are audited by the RMS and have never had any issues.
Hope this answers your enquiry

im guessing you went though regency?
Not sure who Regency are, I'm based in Mandurah WA, another thing is the Perentie comes with 2 seats but I may be able to fit a standard 110 double passenger seat system to make a 3 seater using the existing seatbelt anchor points.
Does anybody have spare seats that will fit
apologies.
i saw you bought it in Adelaide, so I assumed you were going through SA vehicle inspections (commonly called regency)
The compliance plate fitted to the Perentie also shows '2' seater, so fitting another one might cause you more drama with the rego man.
Have fun with it!
Matt.
I had a station wagon (7 seater) which I removed the rear seats to create a flat floor space and got yellow stickered! I had to register it as a panel van!!
I reckon it was the only four door panel van in W.A.
Go figure
I would suggest you use the old type of Lucas ign switch,as used in early Series 2/2a's which can be keyed or go to the wreckers and find a dead Morris Minor (off/on) or an early -mid Mini/1100 off on start, mount it on a plate suitably painted, and wire it as to go to that switch first to energise the keyless switch, and purchas a "Club" "Krooklock" steering wheel lock to pacificify the transport inspector
You could then fit civilian split seats 1x2 and it would still be 2 only seat assemblies, to really screw his mind.
The standard Isuzu 110 ignition lock/key is a direct replacement.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Battery isolator with removable key is ok , so long as it isolates the ignition. That is the key for my ute and passed a road worthy.
Cheers Hall
