I would have continued working had I been able to move to reduced hours, e.g., 2-3 days a week covering those shifts that were normally covered with overtime. One place I worked has every Friday and Saturday arvo shift covered by OT. I could have done those two.

Hey, I'm working three days a week.
    And loving it.

Would that happen to be the ADF?

Interesting thought. A 70yo grunt on the front line.
Interestingly, the oldest ANZAC killed at Gallipoli in 1915 was 59yo.

According to the published history, the RSM of 49 battalion AIF was born in 1849. He was 66 at Pozieres. He made the 100 and attended the last reunion in 1949 at that age.

That would have suited me, Arthur. At least I'd have got out of the signal box. One problem with being a signaller in a one-man signal box was that one couldn't leave. If one wanted to go to the toilet, one had to time it between trains and then tell Operations control one was leaving the box.
