    Waking up Australia to compassion.

This thread isn't about political persuasions, it is about a fair go for our fellow humans and the injustice we are allowing to be inflicted on people who have come halfway across the world, seeking safety within Australia.

Our immediate past and present Government have responded to the wishes of the people of our land and the popular idea that the so called illegal immigrants are only here to grab our prosperity and 'blow us all up' .

My concern is that as a nation we are not listening carefully enough to those individual stories.
Their stories are of their horror, hardships and the circumstances that have forced them from their families and homelands. There is a story printed in 'The Guardian' theguardian.com, Thursday 21 November 2013 14.01 AEST , that I wish you can find the time to read.

Ref; My experience as a nurse on Christmas Island changed the core of my being | Emma Hunter | Comment is free | theguardian.com

The reasons that some come here, isn't as true as the legitimate refugee, but to treat all of them the same is so wrong.

There are rules as to how you get into Australia. We followed them. Why do the rules not apply to all? I hate double standards.

Now that we are here... "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" if you get my drift.

Adopt the local culture as your own, speak the language (one of the rules of entry is English literacy), support the national sporting teams. "Home" becomes Australia. Dress accordingly. Blend in. Make Oz friends.

Use your skill to work, you can do this if you are legally here & have a skill (which you will have if you are legal).

Australia owes migrants nothing, on the contrary, we migrants owe Australia big time for allowing us into this big beautiful country so do your bit & don't try to change it to suit you!

There are rules about the invasion of sovereign countries too. Australia was a major player in the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan .Guess where we are getting many of our refugees from? We were part of the coalition of the drilling that caused upheaval in these countries. We should take responsibility for our actions.

And if their are people dying and being victimised in other countries, we should do nothing? Apparently we should apply the rules for these people? Well English language proficiency is not a rule applicable to refugees.

If you want rules applied to all, why are you not campaigning about all of the illegal arrivals that fly in? Oh, that's right, it hasn't been successfully politicised has it.

Lets show some compassion, we are blessed, we have a big country. Lets have a big heart too.

I have no compassion for these people at all. They have allowed their own countries to turn to rubbish and then try and come here illegally and bring all their issues with them Very few seem to try fit in with our culture but demand we Australians allow them to continue with their old ways and values (and religion).
The people coming here on boats are the wealthy who can afford to pay, but do not want to go through official channels or know they will not be accepted here if they did, not the real refugees stuck in camps somewhere.
I am glad we are turning back the boats as best we can and the people coming on them who are caught in Australian waters will have no chance of ever living here. I believe people who break our laws to come here will have little respect for our laws and way of life if they are allowed to stay here.

    Stanley Bruce

Australian Prime Minister [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Bruce"]Stanley Bruce - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] was a supporter of the White Australia Policy, and made it an issue in his campaign for the 1925 Australian Federal election.[20]
“ It is necessary that we should determine what are the ideals towards which every Australian would desire to strive. I think those ideals might well be stated as being to secure our national safety, and to ensure the maintenance of our White Australia Policy to continue as an integral portion of the British Empire.[20] We intend to keep this country white and not allow its people to be faced with the problems that at present are practically insoluble in many parts of the world."[21]

And the rest got gassed or shot! People forget very quickly don't they.

I am sick of the bleeding hearts who think we should just accept every one. There are plenty of AUSTRALIANS who need help and don't get it. Spend our money to help our people first. Imagine how many more hospitals we could have, how much better the schools and welfare system could be (for those who need it) if we did not have to spend billions and these so called refugees.
I pay heaps in tax and object to even one dollar of it going to these boat people.
As for plenty of space here for more people, thats just crap. I don't want any more people in Australia than what there is now, it is already too overcrowded. When I was a kid you could go away for the weekend and see almost no one. These days there is always someone else around.

I haven't forgotten a thing, it's all about how many are getting shot and by whom. I think that having sewerage is a good thing too...lot's of people there are missing that.

Maybe you should push for a one child policy here so you can be a happy vegemite? It would solve our horrendous crowding issues.

Have there been any times of Peace in the middle east? The Old Testiment had them fighting about land - and they still are. And the bribary and barbaric violence in Africa is what puts food on the table for those families. It's intrinsic, instinctive and generational - they simply can't act appropriately in a moderated society because they don't know how; like a child learning to share...

There are people worse off the the boat people, 5th generation refugees in some camps in Sudan and Rwanda.

But, I bet if you were in the same situations as those boat people you'd be doing exactly the same thing. If there's an official channel to get into Australia for someone with no tertiary degree and moderate income from Aruzgan then I'd like to know.
