government department, sounds about right
Boat licence that is.......I did the test in 1987 and received a paper licence, back than it was separate to your drivers licence. Anyways I managed to loose it in the early 90's. every time I went into Queensland transport and asked for it to be added to my drivers licence they said they didn't have any record indicating I ever had one.
Well I lost my licence the other week and had to upgrade to the new type.... Low and behold it lists my boat licence.........unbelievable.......I haven't receive the licence yet but the paper interim licence indicate I have a boat licence as well.........

Hello from Brisbane.
I got a Queensland boat license shortly after migrating here in the late 80s. It was a paper license that I had laminated to carry in the boat. Some years ago I was pulled over by the water-wallopers on a safety check and went to offer up the paper license. Told not to bother as my drivers license was enough - the two being linked.
Can't see any endorsements for boats there, but apparently the system knows. S3ute junior got his boat license a couple of years back and ditto - no paper license or indication of such on his drivers license. But again apparently the system knows.
One less thing to carry around and lose.
Cheers,
I liked the days back when a "Marriage Licence" covered the lot!
But I suppose hardly any one is "married" these days.
The thing that really amuses me is that on the Murray (NSW waters) you need a boat licence if your "tinny" can plane or basically exceeds ten knots, however a car licence is sufficient if you want to drive one of those big house boats, the B-Doubles of the river!
Cheers, Mick.

In 1971 I got my car & motorcycle licence at Petrie.
Added truck endorsement in '74.
Moved to Mt Isa in '79 & lost my wallet along the way
To the police stn requesting new licence only to be told I had car & truck only!
Book in for bike test.
Get 2nd bike licence on the 900SD Ducati I'd been punting around on. This was way before the 250cc limit.
Leave the Isa for Airlie Beach in '82.
To the police for a change of address but my licence didn't pass muster after being soaked a few times by rain while on the bike & was illegible.
Once again, car & truck only!
Told the walloper to look at my old licence but of course the part with the endorsement was buggered.
Phoned Mt Isa police only to be told that the bloke who took me for the test, a grumpy little Scot, had quit & had not been real flash with his paperwork.
Third bike test coming up!
In '85 I had my licence suspended for 2 weeks for something obscure like points, or lack thereof. Anyway, 2 weeks later, down to the local police & "Voila" now I've got only a car licence as I was told, in error that, after a licence suspension, you only get your car bit back.
By the time I was advised this was wrong it was too late for me to do anything about it so now I just have car & marine.
In hindsight it may have been a good thing as I'm still in one piece, more or lessalthough the truck bit would have been handy a few times.

I got my learners permit way back in 1960 on my birthday at 9.00am and was booked in for my test at 9.30 am the same morning ( I had been driving since 14did the test and passed, back in 1961 for my truck license,as my school mate's father had a contract to transport Banana Prawns from Tin Can Bay Qld to Tweed Heads (Border Hoping to avoid road tax) he had 3 ex army 6x6's 2x GMC's and a Studibaker US-6 it was the Studebaker I took my test in,test was far from happy as it was LHD, but I told him that would be the truck I would be driving so we did the test, I passed, but he did quirey why the truck seemed to be slow,he opened the rear of the tarp, and there was boxed prawns floot to roof bows
I offered him a waste paper basket full for his lunch,he got the basket and when I returned it full of prawns he handed me my truck license,(should have asked for a Semi license)I still remember the number,D155140 for 10 years
went to NSW and got a costly yearly license car, truck, motorcycle, returned to Qld in 82 and took up school bus driving in our semi rural area,I still hold all classes of it Gen,Sched,TriMc. but I might not renew my Authority this year. kids are too feral now, the rest are valid until 2017

Yes,
The last update was just a sticker on the back of the original license to change the validity period. So, nothing else changed.
With passing time and general use and abuse of an aging carcase the photo bears less resemblance to reality - maybe sooner or later it will require a complete update (I was asked for ID to get a beer at the Las Cruces Hooters, which at 62 was a compliment given the drinking age is 21 and they were ferreting out under age uni students).
Cheers
Have not been asked my age since I was 16 with my 15&1/2 yr old girlfriend in the old National Hotel in Brisbane![]()
The WA "Skippers ticket" is a separate plastic card.
The WA system, causes problems for people coming from interstate, because normally they take your interstate DL when they give you a WA drivers licence, however if you have a boat licence they have to give it back to you.
