    Stainless steel polishing

    Hi team

    I recently purchased a stainless steel side fitting table that goes on the back LH guard of the County.

    I am not entirely happy with the linished finish of the stainless as it continues to give up a fine grit and marks , no matter how much I clean it.

    After wiping over quite a few times with dry cloths and towels and then using WD 40 and CRC , it continues to give off a fine grit.

    Does anyone have an opinion or method on how to polish , seal , clean the matt finish stainless.

    I have contacted the manufacturer and they state that the finish is fine and that is just how it is. We have discussed returning it and a full refund buit having fitted it and needing to use it soon I would rather just fix the problem

    Polishing + County ??

    Easiest way to polish it would be to remove it, and either take it to someone who does polishing work, or have a go yourself. Almost impossible to do on the vehicle without risking damage to the surrounding paintwork I'd reckon.

    Same goes for sealing it up IMO. Need to remove it, then give it a good degrease with thinners etc and spray with some clear. Trouble with that is its a working surface so the clear is going to get scratched off and you'll be back to where you started.

    Maybe try some decent wax, but if the surface is rough I don't like your chances.

    If I was mine and I was concerned about cosmetic issues (which I'm not ) I'd be removing and polishing then maybe a bit of wax if it was still not up to the required standard.

    Could you polish it up with a scourer disc on a 5"angle grinder. They'll take paint off steel leaving a smooth polished surface. the ones i've used had a blue curly abrasive material on them.

    a scotchbrite pad will also help clean up a linished finish.

    We used to use baby oil to get a really good finish and hide imperfections. One drop would do a lot of stainless.

    Gumption is the best product. Yes it's real and will give the best results.

    Get it from coles or woollies.
