I've been reading this blokes work for some time, have not agreed on a lot, but this is interesting, a must read, then form your own opinion, Bob

    Thumbs up

    Good article.
McCrann is a straight shooter, I invariably agree with what he has to say.

He certainly is a straight shooter, for a while there I thought he was aligned to a certain side of politics , so I was a bit iffy about his work, but I have since seen he tells it as he sees it, & for the most part, he is very close to the mark. For anyone wanting to get an understanding of what is happening in the World of business in Aus. , McCrann is at least worth listening to, but keep an open mind. Bob

Terry Mcrann has his finger right on the money here.
For those of you who've just discovered his commentary, it's worth going back a few weeks to see his writings about the forthcoming and enivitable (he says) second GFC. Much worse than the first one and governments (including ours) will not be able to buy their way out this time.

Not just 'interesting' times ahead, they are actually pretty scary in many ways.

At the time our government (and all the rest of the world) started throwing all those billions around I was of the opinion that they were effectively pouring concrete into the San Andreas fault...... you can only stave off the inevitable for so long and by doing so, the final result is worse than it might have been had it been left to run its course.

Australia now has the most expensive real estate in the world, we are taxed within an inch of our lives and our national debt just keeps growing. Our basic services (hospitals etc) are in a parlous state and getting worse every year.

All this and 'they' want our popuation to more than double over the next 35 years or so. We cant support 23 million people.... how the hell will we support 50 million? Yes there will be more tax payers, but there will also be many many more people over 65..... or 67..... or 70..... God knows what the retirement age will be then!

I fear that we are 'the lucky country' no more. Bloody shame. Just glad I've lived a good chunk of my life here when it was.

wardy1 ...excellent post mate, because,....YOU SPEAK THE TRUTH.
Your 3rd last para, OH SO TRUE, but no-one wants to know, they think all is good, but it ain't, it's UNSUSTAINABLE,....it is all going to change,....DOWNWARDS, .....in the not too distant future.
Lots won't believe me, so to you guys, I simply say,...wait & see.
    Cheers, Pickles.

actually we have very low tax levels... especially for the higher end of town, compared to other oecd countiries.

    Part 1: Australia

if they repealed the upper middle class welfare and tax cuts of the last three governments there wouldn't be the issues that we have now, they tell me.

personally i think they should get rid of negative gearing, and the superanuation rorts for the high end of town and do what other countries do to us.... 50% tariffs on products that compete with ours

that should create a few wails of poor poor me...

    PS

i personally think a 20% GST and no exemptions on it and get rid of all personal tax.....
