    Mick,

I'm glad you weren't patrolling the Warringah Expressway between Crows Nest and North Sydney today!

An old mate and former business partner called in for a sandwich lunch and declared his recent purchase of a BMW M3.

"Would you like a drive?" he offered

    "No" I said thinking "yes"

    "Ï'll drive" he said

Ok I get in and fasten the seat belt he says "I've only had it up to 210"

Well we join the expressway and I start looking for handles to hold on to.

The left lane is clear and he's doing 150 (80 k zone) and he's in 4th with 2 in reserve.

That was the fastest 3 km I've ever done.

What a sweet motor: that straight 6 is singing all the way to 7800 rpm.

And not a subwoofer to be heard.

I've gotten too used to the "glug" of the diesel.

Mate although Im no Cockroach (Highway patrol) ill say this

There is no such thing as "safe speed" in fact speeds of that nature or "Speed dangerous" as we would like to call it have only two places - The race track and speed unlimited roads in outback OZ.

Im sorry to say that if I was there I would certainly do more than issue a ticket, your friend would certainly be seeing the inside of the Dock in a courtroom.....

while its fun and speed and adrenaline go hand in hand, what would have happened is things went bad?

    steps down off his soapbox....

    sorry for the rampage
    Mick

    8) quiet now, ain't it.

    i get you're drift.

here in qld it seems that its a right to have a big exhaust pipe on a 4 cyl puss bucket.
something to do with the rego system here
    no capacity/horsepower crap
    its simple here
just 4/6/8 cyls -pay by the number of cylinders the qld transport man can see,
so we get millions of 4 cyl dirtboxes owned by children who can't drive, with big exhausts and stereos so they can't hear there own ****ty car.

the sooner qld brings in pay by horsepower the better, out will go 4 cyl crud back in comes nice sounding 6/8's
with enough tin on them to lower the death rate of innocent passengers, maybe even some drivers

    woops i'm getting off track

the exhaust can be a little overwhelming at times. but it is great when a taxi cuts in front of you from a position that they legally shouldn't. i just cruise up beside the driver's window, which is usually down, drop down a gear and give it a boot full. the exhaust lets out a deafening "bark" as it goes through the peak of the torque curve leaves a lasting (ringing) reminder that their driving habits are somewhat anti-social. no yelling abuse, no hand gestures, no cussing, just noise

    True.

And those speed unlimited roads have kangaroos and cattle on them far too often so "fast' certainly doesn't equal safe on those roads either. It also comes down to driver AND vehicle capabilities (in the braking department).

Stay with a Landy, and you've much less speed to worry yourself about...

Yeah some people think that 60 in a 60 zone means they are immortal.

    That's frightening to me.
