I believe this one is powered by a V8 Troit, and goes like a rocket!! It belongs to an American Entertainer called J Leno... There's also a red one used in the film RV and some of the interior shots are good but yes, you are right... Prob restricted space! Still want one tho!

Brian, what sort of consumption could I reasonably expect from a 6V92 grossing no more than 25 tonne at 1500-1550 rpm? Will the Detroit be happy at those low revs?
Ian, I would only be guessing at fuel consumption. The 8V92TA's did about 5 miles per gallon (I always converted back to make sense. L/100k's is meaningless to me).

The 6V92TA can be set to 335 hp @ 2100 or 322 hp @ 1950. Peak torque in either case is 957 lb/ft @ 1300 and is much the same at 1500.

Then there is the 6V92TTA "Fuel Squeezer" as DDA termed it. 270 hp @ 1950 or 307 hp @ 1900. Again peak torque of 957 lb/ft @ 1300 and almost the same @ 1500.

In all ratings best fuel consumption is at 1500 rpm.

Operating range is from governed rpm to 1300 rpm. The Spicer 1107 suited this perfectly. A 9509 would be good also.

Probably 6V53, check out this clip; it even has a tune for Digger.

And this link. I think most Flxibles were originally Duetz (air cooled) power but no doubt Glen, Brian or Kev will confirm or deny.

My RC 64 used to return 4.5 mpg regardless of weight, terrain or driving style, the big C @ 350HP (don't laugh, twas well respected HP in its day) through a thirteen over to 5.28s was consistent if not economical. A fiddle to extract an extra 80 HP and ratio change to 3.7 changed the whole ball game. Driving style became critical for economy. The revised spec produced an average of 7-7.5 with one Bris-Mt Isa return at 9.9; I was never able to repeat that figure and still wonder if I misplaced a fuel receipt.
Based on these figures I was hoping to achieve 10+mpg from a 6V92 at at least half of the weights I used to gross.

Ian, what does a bus weigh? What axle ratios do they use? O/d or direct?

1500 rpm and 3.7 overall gear ratio is near spot on 80 kph and 1900 rpm gives 100 kph. Then if you turned the wick up to 2100 you would hit 108kph.

I was thinking 3.7 or taller with 0.73 OD, that should give 100 kph at 15-1550 rpm on 11R/295s

AC/DC used to have a Clipper as their tour bus. I worked for QBM in the 70's, we repowered it with a V8 Perkins, went well.

I never had much to do with them. Ones I can recall had either Deutz or Detroit 4-71N. I did see one with the twin Detroit 4-71N which GM used to call a "pallet". They also did "pallets" in 2 x 6-71 and 4 x 6-71 and maybe more but I never saw them. Used in marine and stationary applications mostly, pumps, drilling rigs, etc.

106 kph @ 1500 based on 504 tyre revs per mile. That combo gives an overall ratio of 2.7:1. I would be concerned about the ability of a 300-335 hp engine to pull that gearing on any circumstances but dead flat and no headwind. You would probably have the pedal on the metal in any other circumstances. What weight do you anticipate? Buses have large frontal area. All these criteria come into the equation. The relatively low tare of a bus might be the saving grace here.
