We had a quiet one here, Got called out at 0220 for a 5 metre tree fully involved. someone had set fire to a paperbark outside the Leisure centre.

We got called out to a firepit fire at one of the caravan parks on a TFB day last week. 240 penalty units at $140.84 per unit adds up to a hefty fine (almost $34,000) or two years jail or both.

I'm over the whole fireworks bit.
A few bangers and little rockets once per year is one thing, but the big NYE (and seemingly everything else) pyrotechnics is too much.
A complete waste of money, resources, environmental damage, 'disturbance of the peace' and impact on animals for really no good reason.

'We can put on the biggest show' they say, until someone blows more stuff up in the next city.

    Bah, humbug.....

The reason we were going... Gawler MFS were trying to protect houses from a fire started by fireworks, and Concordia were at the fire Mick mentioned earlier in One Tree Hill!!!!!! Within the first 20min of 2014 there were over 60 calls and most of them due to fireworks!!! All of us on all of those fire trucks have not been able to 100% relax, drink and enjoy the evening.... So, yes...anyone caught mucking around with them needs locking up in my opinion!
The problem I see here is that these are all illegal fire works. If they made them legal like Darwin and set some rules and regulations about their use, maybe we would not have so many problems.

Being illegal people are going to set them off in places where being caught is slim, which there fore often means places that might start fires.

Then make the penalties very harsh for illegal use. As I stated in an earlier post, my mate who until recently lived in Darwin had them every year without issue.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I do have to agree here. The money that is spent on these things is huge.

Governments don't have enough money for important thing like more police or hospital beds, to name a few, but seem to be able to fund things like this.

So if fireworks are so evil, why do our governments waste so much money on NYE displays. Maybe the politicians are evil. Oops, I just linked back to Guy Fawkes.

It's not the fireworks that are evil, it's the irresponsible cretins that get hold of them that are.
Sadly, should a cretin burn down someones house, memories and Landrovers, the laws favour those irresponsible people and not the victim.
If a victim, I would want my pound of flesh.

    Thumbs up

I grew up in England, & Guy Fawks night/Bonfire night was an occasion that we as a family, and the whole street / neighbourhood looked forward to.
My last Bonfire nights were in Manchester, in an inner working class suburb. We would make a "guy", put him in a pram, then we would walk around our neighbourhood asking "a penny for the guy".
There would be a large bonfire at the end of the street, got started when it got dark, and it was a lovely social event for everyone. Lots of fireworks, some bought cakes (parkin), & everyone had a fun night.
There were NO restrictions on who could buy fireworks, and I cannot remember any "accidents", but I can remember "Bonfire Night" being a very special time for everyone, some of whom weren't too well off, in those days.
