Today is the anniversary of the passing of a man whom I met in 1969, an Englishman, who swapped to the RAN from the RN. Never got promoted beyond leading seaman, never wanted to. A better sailor I never met. Didn't have family here, the Navy was his family. He was the glue that kept many a messdeck together. In his own way. He knew all the shanties, & used to sing them , and taught us the words. Many a night we had in the bars of Williamstown, while in refit, on Vampire. I apologise for this indulgence, I just want him to know his family remembers, Bob
