Bob Hawke drinking Beer at Cricket

Maybe I am just out of touch or getting old?

I saw this whilst watching the cricket

    http://youtu.be/hima6KCQ-yE

and felt a little sad. This culture of celebrating "binge" drinking reminds me of how I felt watching this in the 70's

    http://youtu.be/w4i6kADXfxE

and then smoked Winfleld for 30 years, kidding myself I was some kind of Hoges-clone.

I am not suggesting banning beer or ex-PM's or Richie fans from the cricket. But does the TV channel - (Both live and then in the news) have to highlight it without any balance. Oh that's right its a commercial TV channel and the cricket is sponsored by ???

Subliminal messages do have an impact.

Ocker Bob Hawke sculls a beer

The cricket at the SCG was interrupted for the Richie Benaud look alike's, sitting near their midst was a former Prime Minister - Bob Hawke.
Boys being boys the challenge was on, to get Bob to have a beer. Now Bob is known for some dubious exploits in the past and of those is some sort of beer drinking record.

So a beer was handed to Bob, now armed with a plastic mug full of beer could the 84 year old ex-Prime Minister finish this beer off in record time, it was bottoms up, down the beer went and the crowd went wild.

These days one can't scratch your nose without stirring the ire of the do-gooders and the media pounced.
Today the talk show hosts are tut tutting the terrible toss of the tumbler by Bob the ex-Prime Minister.

If i had an 84 year old father or grandfather who could do that i would be proud of him. These early morning shows have lost the plot, they need to get out among the real people and get away from the coffee shop crowd for a while.{no offense to the coffee shop crowd]

I saw that on Today and thought what a load of crap.

Bloody tree huggers and do gooders

They were going on about binge drinking.

It's not the alcohol that causes the trouble and binge drinking , it's the idiots that don't know when to stop drinking it.

Well I started the same thread yesterday so will jump in here because I will take the negative side.

This was a disgrace. Not the act. Not the cheering. Not the alcohol at the SCG.

WHat happened was the CH9 Cricket coverage applauded it. The 6 o'clock news highlighted it as "a bit of fun"by a dinkum aussie.

We continue to mould our kids behaviour. Subliminally, like Paul Hogan did with the "anyhow*…." campaign.

Then we scratch our heads and wonder why about "the kids of today".

Personally I am sick of the Australian attitude that Fun can't be had without Alcohol.

Please note todays cross at the Cricket will be Clive Palmer gouging himself on KFC.

(Mods please delete my thread of yesterday on this subject)

After having lived in Sydney for two years, and hating it, I say put everyone who shows un Australian traits, including all the metrosexuals and terrorists and those who won't let us sing Christmas carols at school there. Then build a bloody big fence around it and the rest of us can carry on in safety and enjoy our Australian way of life.

I think Bob called foul, as that crowd was too noisy, it spoilt his run and when He asked for another the crowd didn't hear Him.

    The record still stands.
