I was told by my insurance broker that I'm paying more for my house insurance because of the Qld floods and I live in Tas. That sucks !

I live on a floodplain, albeit a minor one.

House is on stumps, shed is built up, and I ensure fridge is full of beer during the wet season.

Have you got a boat for restocking the beer?

Angry previous owners not telling the truth

my whinge for today is directed at me, heres the storey:

Owner tells me he has had head gasket repaired and the car overheated so he was told the head is buggered and that a new one is 850$ so he gets that done, i ask so you have replaced the head, he said yes. During the conversation he tells me that the receipts for all work are inside.

i drive car in sand, up hills, generally push it around and its fine. Buy car.

Drive a further week ok then presto overheating, check and guess what head gasket.

Decide at this time to check the receipts - no replacement head!

At 50 years of age you would think i would have learnt to check stuff before buying, bugger me going for a beer…..

My whinge for the day, Sydney Council and SDRO.

Parked my fiance's little MX5 over the road from my favorite pub (The Republic), in the same spot I always like to get. Rear bumper is about 2.5 inches past the no stopping sign.
Up to the sign was all blocked by road works, and the concrete barrier was almost in line with the sign, so I put the car back pretty close to the concrete block.
I figure no big deal I normally park the Disco there and hang it over a good foot, as I just figured as long as none of the wheels or a big portion of the car is past the sign shouldn't get a fine. Never have before.

Get back to the MX5, fine on the window , 260 big ones for parking in a no parking spot.
So I think ok, out with the phone, take a ton of photos from all angles and get in and leave.

I disputed the fine with the council, they sent back photos. I think great it shows the car is not in the no parking spot. Literally on the extreme angle it looks like maybe half an inch is past the sign, not even to the length of the actual sign itself. mind you the car is tiny also.

In the email it states that no part of the car can be parked in a no parking spot at all. Not in those exact words, I can PM it to anyone who wishes to see.

Respond with questions, and before receiving a follow up from them we get an increased fine from SDRO to almost 400.

Call SDRO, they say if you pay it now it can be on the old price, or on a payment plan you have to pay the higher fine and can do 20 a week. Oh and almost instant license suspension for my fiance.
My response was, if we proceed to payment of any kind it is an admission of guilt, and the car was not parked in the no parking spot!

I don't even know whether to get mad about it, it just seems so ridiculous.

Is that how the parking spots work, do you have to get out and stand on all angles to make sure not even a mm is not past the sign? Is the actual post regarded as the no parking spot? what about if it is on a lean?

The spot I am talking about it opposite The Republic on Pitt Street Sydney CBD.

Anyway, we will just pay the fine, shut up, and go back to being good citizens.
