Not just Cairns, anywhere that there are more than two cars. I was waiting to turn right from Ray Jones Drive onto Mulgrave Road, seven, yep SEVEN cars continued southbound along Mulgrave after I got the green light.Toowoomba and Cairns are the worst in Queensland, in my experience.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
You kidding ..... Cairns is a City ???
I just looked it up , population is Higher than Darwin , well bugger me !
and I totally agree. I hate cities , unless I 'have' to go to Bunnings, BCF etc or get some Sushi that isn't going to give me food poisoning.
you say up the Palmerston hwy to home, I am imagine home is a one horse town some where in the middle of no where were the main mode of travel is still the good old horse and cart where the barber upon hearing the deafening racket of a diesel heading into town races out to light a red candle in the traffic lights after checking that all is safe for the said city motorist he then lights a green candle![]()
I could really sense the emotion in your text.
Glad you made it out alive and got home safe mate. City driving can be very frustrating indeed.![]()
After living in Sydney, Childers in Queensland, Moore Park Beach (25 km out of Bundy, Qld) IMO living in Kingston or Blackmans Bay 14 km from Hobart it is the best compromise. Kingston have everything that you need and if need to drive to the "big smoke" Hobart it is not a big drama.
Had an interesting day on the road in Cairns myself a few months back. Just there for a day and no transport so wife & I decided to go for ride on that tourist train.
Picked up at the hotel in by a tourist coach / bus thing to take us to the station. The bus was pretty full and driver had a mike on and began to give a bit of commentary as he drove.
He asked where everyone was from - put your hands up if your from China, put your hands up if your from USA, put your hands up if your from Japan etc. I think we must have been the only Aussies on board. Anyway, at this point another bus from the same company zoomed past us in the next lane. Driver said over the PA - "don't worry about that bus, lucky your not on it, that's where we put all the Abo's" My jaw dropped, I'm sure most of the people on the bus must have realised just what had been said.
A little later we were approaching a roundabout. The driver took it as normal but as he was leaving the roundabout he got on the PA again and said - "look folks I only got one arm but can still drive OK", while waving his only good arm above his head to prove it.
At the next roundabout he said "watch this" and put the bus on full lock, locked the steering wheel with his knees, waved his only arm above his head, and then proceeded to squawk like a galah while he did a 720 around the roundabout.
My jaw dropped even further and the eye balls of few international tourist popped out and bounced down the isle. Welcome to Australia and the standard of driving.
