Now I Know Why I Live in the Bush!

I know Cairns is not what most of you would consider a big city, or even a city at all, but I had to go there yesterday & wish I didn't.
First it was raining, do city drivers all go a bit silly if they get wet? Half were driving like it was dry & the council had added extra grip to the roads, just belting along nose to tail with windscreens covered in spray & no hope of stopping if it all went A up.
The other half were totally the opposite. Driving at 30kph, to frightened to make a decision & making like the roads were covered in ice.
If someone can explain the way traffic lights are timed I would appreciate it? Some stay on green forever, some only long enough for four cars to get through? Strange.
Why do people slow down as they approach a green light? Do they want give it time to turn red?
Why did I need a parking ticket at a shopping centre & then not have to pay any money to park?
How do they expect you to fit a D3 in those tiny parking bays? And open the doors?
Has NO driver in the city ever looked up the meaning of consideration? Last time I checked driving in a city was not a competition or test of your manhood, apparently it is in Cairns.
Why can't I do a U turn on a green arrow? I thought you could.
Why, if I want to go left do I have to follow the road going right?
Can't they make the signs with street names so you can read them? I got lost 3 times!
Though, there was 1 really nice part of the day - the road out of Cairns & the blatt back up the Palmerston Highway to home.
HOW DO YOU PUT UP WITH IT???

Other than a couple of minor details - sounds just like a day driving in Perth.

Over here - you would have had to pay for the parking ticket ...............

and we can do U-turns at some green lights.

Just be thankful that they don't have Freeways in Cairns - you want to see what Perth drivers are like on those things.
    Cheers .........

In Melbourne, everyone speeds up in the wet - until someone with no talent tail ends the car in front, then it's gridlocked for hours....

I put up with it because work pays me to, but I'm a country lad really, just stuck in the city for a few years... I will return to a more sedate lifestyle eventually.

Your experience isn't just Cairns, it's Melbourne too.

    yes

The slow ones are the ones went A up in the last 6 months. When they get their confidence back they'll return to the slipstreamers group. Apparently if you drive 1m behind the car in front you'll make the car in front go faster - even though they're 1m behind the 100 cars in front of them.

If someone can explain the way traffic lights are timed I would appreciate it? Some stay on green forever, some only long enough for four cars to get through? Strange.

The 4th car must be running the red light!

Why do people slow down as they approach a green light? Do they want give it time to turn red?

These are the recent a up brigade again... don't worry their confidence will return all too soon

You must offend and upset as many people as possible to gain 2.4 seconds on the trip home.

This is why I'll never live in the suburbs again regardless of where I live. Even Ballarat on weekdays does my head in traffic wise and that's bugger-all compares to Melbourne, you can shove that place!!!

I like peace quiet and places where people are far and few between that's why I live in Snake Valley, enjoying the serenity and less ****wits per square km that most places.

I put up with the same kindergarten Melbourne traffic behavior for 40 years because of work. Now happy with my weekly expedition into Bairnsdale where it is mostly civil.
Except in holiday periods when those Melbourne drivers bring their driving attitudes with them on their holidays.
