Thread: Britpart Oil Filters

If the part number has a 'G' suffix it's an OEM part.
If it doesn't and you're happy with it why change?
A lot of rubbish is posted about Britpart, most of their stuff is fine.

Keithy, yoy say that you have had no problems with them. The way I see it is this; If they are not filtering as well as another brand you are not going to know.

It would probably just mean that with a poorer quality filter your motor won't last as long, but when it does wear out you are not going to say, "well this motor did not last as long as it should, must be the oil filter"

So if your filter choice is not good quality you probably would never know.

Having said that, I can't say for sure whether Brit part are good or not, but a lot of people here bag Britpart in general.

Myself, I will only use genuine, Mahle or Coopers(not to be mistaken with cooper filters).

I'm not looking to change, just figured I'd been using them for a while and heard so many bad stories about britpart (their spark plugs for example - none of the tabs on the ones I had lined up, I chucked them out and got NGK instead as the engine was notably running rough on the Britpart ones).

I just buy the filters from Burson, usually Coopers.

The Z89A is a very common filter, I wouldn't bother importing them unless they were very cheap

I use Ryco or OEM filters - small cost in reality and personally using cheap filters isn't something I would entertain.

In a past life, I used to service generators every day - big stuff, not camping style units - think 100KVA to 2,000KVA, not 2KVA.

I have seen on more than one occasion severe engine damage caused by an incorrectly manufactured filter, or a filter failure - both oil and air filters. The problem filters were always cheap ones. We always used premium OEM filters, but people would sometimes try and save a few bucks and do a service in between the ones they called us in to do. I have seen those decisions cost them dearly...

You do raise a good point. I might see how much genuine filters cost and compare with ryco and britpart. The britpart ones are so cheap, and I normally place at least one order with Island 4x4 per year, so normally just tack a couple of filters onto the order.

Next thing on my list is bulk engine oil suppliers! Rather than buy the Valvoline Syn Power oil by the 5L I'm thinking of getting 20 or 50L at a time.

I also get orders from Island 4x4 about once per year and add in a couple of oil filters, I've never selected the Britpart ones though as the Mahle ones are only about $1 more expensive.

Britpart put their name on all sorts of products that they don't actually make, some are utter crap (usually from China) and others seem very good (I have some foam cell shocks that I'm really impressed with). I'd always be nervous of any Britpart product that's significantly cheaper than competitors though.

For oil I use Castrol 20W-50, the stuff designed for older engines with extra sludge removing additives and I always add in a can of Liqui Moly MOS2 additive as it works wonders in making the engine quieter and smoother.

I just did the annual oil change last week which was about 5,000km since the last one and the engine sounds much better for it.
