What is with the Landrover hatred?

I've had a dream for some years now to take my Defender to the UK via Africa. I've read so many blogs/websites on the subject and by chance found another this morning. I'm reading about an automotive engineer who has worked for both Toyota and Land Rover and is talking of how he decided on using a Defender.
The site is "The Adventures of the Scarlet 4x4" and I've included two quotes below.

"So the logical part of me would go for the Land Cruiser? Well, for vehicle reliability and quality, yes.
But for vehicle desirability - uhm, no....and this is where all logic crumbles...."

And,

"When choosing between the two, I sat behind the wheel of both marques.
One was comfortable, quiet, well engineered, adequately powered, oozing quality, but to me - dull.
The other was decidedly uncomfortable, noisy, leaked (water in, oil out), but oozed "character"."

My point is exactly that, our vehicles aren't "dull" they ooze character. Be it a series or a RR sport.
My Patrol was a far better "Car" than my Defender. My Defender is a far better 4wd. I didn't hesitate to sell my Patrol and have never missed it. Could I see a time I would sell our Defender, no.....never!

So, let the haters.......hate!

I couldn't sell mine. Not because I love it but I have spent that much money on it, I'd never recover my costs.

I have spent just as much time working on previously owned Toyotas and I grew to love them more. The thing with the Toyotas, I was working on them to improve them. The Landy, I'm working on it to keep it going. In the end both vehicles have been as capable as each other.

People fit diff locks to Toyotas while others try to keep their traction control working in their Discos.

Apparently LR thought that the traction control would be good enough on its own, and it probably would be, if all you did was go green laning. But for the beach, and serious mud, CDL is good. I have a 1999 D2, CDL fitted, but wasn't connected. So, I have experienced both worlds. I found the CDL connected with traction control, to be spot on, it excused my inexperience to get me out of trouble a few times. BTW, if you are as handy as you say you are, it would be easy to connect CDL, DIY. May not look pretty, but who cares if it works. Bob

Yeah I know about the traction control good enough thing but how dumb were they still actually putting it in. They weren't even saving money.

D4, D4, D4, D2, Vogue...

well my disco is back on the road :D and now seems to not be leaking any oil either :D

and it was not a difficult task to change the studs etc, did not have to take much apart to get to it all. i find it a simple car to work on. the worse bit with this was the actual studs, 2 of the broken ones came out easy, the other did not. haha.it all went back together in about 15 minutes though!
