    This is the hilarious part.
If landcruisers are so reliable, then why do they stock parts everywhere?

I was on my up to the Cape and stopped at Bloomfeild camp for the night.

In making conversation with other campers I got talking to a chap with a brand new 100 series land cruiser. He said he had been their a week waiting for a new rad as his had broken when the water from a rover crossing hit the hot rad. It hat d to be flown and then taxi 4x4 to him.

After him telling me his story he asked what car I was in. I pointed to my blue 90 and he then went off on a rant about how stupid I was to bring a land rover out into real Australia. Although at this stage this was the last part of our 45,000ks trip around Australia.

After he finished I said oh well but I am not the one stuck in the middle of no where with a broken rad. Which I then pointed out that my 90 had gone into an icy water holes. Breaking the ice on the way in with out busting the rad.
Later found out he had been showing off his new 100 series and was hitting the water at high speed and that is what broke his rad.

Don't know how much truth there is in this but I have been told in the past that with the Toyotas if they break that's it they are really broken. Where as with a Landy you can limp it home. Which i have personally done many times :-)

No serious aussies would ever hit the bush in a land rover now. when you get get a land cruiser, which is much better suited, cheaper and 10x more reliable, oh and you can get parts for them anywhere!

I have had a ford now and I was looking at buying a landy, but every farmer I have spoken to says absolutely not! Tomorrow I am making a 1000km journey up north, I can trust that I will have a comfy, not in a land rover.
I can imagine every other one you 'sell' (Landrover)coming off a corner on a dirt track."(unquote)
    Funny that.

A while back, I did a fan belt in my work Prado (3 litre diesel engine, same engine as in many of the hundreds of Rollux's around Kalgoorlie).

Went in to the local (Kalgoorlie) Toyota dealership to pick up a new fan belt - was pretty sure that they'd have one in stock, given the size of the dealership (one of the largest in the state outside of the metro area) and the number of Prado's / Rollux's getting around the district - only to be told that they don't carry this part in stock, and would get it up overnight for me.

I have been able to get ANY Landrover part that I needed up overnight .......

Toyota parts availability anywhere - it's a myth (but they do such a good job of marketing it).
    Cheers .........

Home made lever and a strong push/pull cable works well. don't use a bonnet release cable.

Actually Ive owned a Toyota Bundera for 28 years and loved it. Ive also owned a Disco 2 and loved its performance but not its bills. Just bought a D3, (toss up between that and a 76 Series Landcruiser - until I heard about the 100k service cost). Ive still got the Bundy at 440k and probably wont sell it! But Im in love with the D3. Its like when I bought the Bundera I used to go outside at night to check if it really was there.

I used to have a Bundera when I was at Karonie Gold Mine (about 140km east of Kalgoorlie on the Trans line). Was a great offroad vehicle - went anywhere we wanted to go - but bloody scary travelling at any sort of speed on the corrugated dirt access road. It would just - change direction - without any input to the steering wheel, whenever it felt like it. I ended up in the scrub more than once.

It was affectionally known amongst all the people on site as the "Noddy Wagon" because when you travelled in it, your head bobbed around like Noddy.

Hopeless fuel economy - but we didn't care - it was a company vehicle.

Was probably the most reliable vehicle we had on site though - don't remember ever having any problems with it.
    Cheers .........
