That County made the difficult so simple. That's why we drive Land Rovers huh!

Just ask them how many Car of the Year awards their particular brand has won.

Then, ask them how many of those they have won consecutively.

And when they ummm, and, ahhhh... Just channel Skipper from Madagascar: "Smile & wave, boys. Smile & wave"

Landys have one thing that is seriously lacking in a lot of other brands. They have "heart & soul" I will go as far as to say, they are no less reliable than many other makes.

Another thing to ponder. How many independent workshops are there that specalise in Toyota, or Nissan, or Mitsubishi? Very few. Now, the knockers will instatly say something along the lines of, "Dats cause we dont need 'em", through the gaps in their teeth.

Fact of the matter is, a Landy is worth keeping on the road.

Oh, and if you get stuck, give Brendan from British Automotive a call. He is a sucker for a sweet smile & a pretty face. From memory, he lives up your way as well.

And don't be afraid to ask for help. Unlike the drivers of "other" makes, us Landy tragics stick together. But, you know that already.

    Hi Epic Dragon,

I know it can be hard not taking it to heart when some Land Rover naysayers get stuck into us. Not long ago I had an interesting conversation (one sided mind you) with a rather sloshed individual who was having a real go at me after I let on that I liked Landies. He told me that all Land Rovers were crap, that Toyota built the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme and opened up Australia's inland, and his Prado was the best 4WD ever invented. Better than any Land Rover product - bar none. He was beginning to give me the irrits, but we were in mixed company so I kept my mouth shut.

Turns out the doofus had never even sat in a Land Rover, but had been to the Cooma visitors centre and between that and heresay, was what he based his opinions on. As I was going to see him again a few days hence, with the same group of people at another dinner, I didn't argue but told him to do a bit of research, re: his Cooma info especially, and then get back to me.

Was delightful when he found that amongst the multitude of vehicles used on the scheme, over 2000 Landies were used from very early on, versus about 100 times LESS Toyota Land Cruisers - and then after most of the roads were getting sorted (post 1955/56). I also had a chuckle when I told him my dad used to work for the Thiess brothers during the 50's and 60's and knew them personally.

He had that pale, confused, stunned, rabbit in the headlights look you often get with the 'Land Rover ill-informed', when Toyota mythology starts to get overturned, and he began to see why we are so attached to these beasties - and more importantly forgive them their sins! Plus he read a few reviews which compared his Prado vs other Land Rover products. That must have been priceless when he read those!

I guess he was only parroting the same crap we all hear, ad infinitum, but it was a bit of an eye opener for him after his bit of detective work. It's not often we question the status quo. He still reckons his Prado is magnificent though (as is his wont), but that is the nature of 4WD rivalry and friendly ribbing isn't it? So long as you enjoy whatever your ride is and can get out amongst it, it's all good. He was much better company when he was sober though! Ha ha

Anyway, I hope you feel better today and your Landie treats you well. Don't forget that you will always have a friendly ear on this forum, to soothe the barbs when they dig a bit deeper than usual.

    Take care,

    Cripesamighty

    Like I keep telling everyone...

when you buy $50k worth of landrover you are buying $45K of get me from A-B and $5k worth of somewhere to sit.

when you buy something else you get, at best $20k worth of get me from A-B and $30k worth of somewhere to sit.

(And I still think landrovers spending too much in the creature comforts department, its a mechano set for crying out loud, if they want a stereo, AC and comfy seat they can just bolt them in.)

"In a Landrover the other vehicle is your crumple zone."

For spelling call Rogets, for mechanicing call me.

So people just don't understand, would they rather I go into a business where I don't sell anything and there is no market?

What I don't get is that we choose to drive Land Rovers and not a Nissan, Toyota or Mitsubishi. As 4WDers it shouldn't matter what you own it's about getting out there and enjoying the bush full stop, not having to sit there and listen to ill-informed boofheads bang on about a vehicle they know SFA about and gathered info for so-called 'un-biased' individual's.

True story, I was going to join a non-branded 4WD club a few years back, just to see what everyone else apart from Rover owners got up to, thought I would give it a go. Attended a club meeting but what I copped after I mentioned I had a Rangie was absolute full on attack of Rover bashing and narrow-minded ignorance. Sadly not a in a light hearted and amusing fashion that would have been more than fine, comments such as "****in' Range Rover' and "****in' pommy ****, useless blah blah blah" is not what I called banter and having a bit of a laugh and that was a censored version of that. This was done in a manner and attitude that was not very welcoming at all. Now I have a thick skin and didn't get offended but it was just plain idiotic behaviour by so-called grown-ups. I got a written apology from the club and was encouraged to join but said thanks but no thanks.

Put simply, most people are dickheads and needed to be treated as such. Sad but true.

When I paid 100% more than I should have for The Lady Sarah, the entire family were convinced of my senility, idiocy and incompetance. Especially the sons... even refusing to ride in it except under sufference...

Fast - forward two years... #1 son (most vitriolic critic) needed wheels... so Sarah lives with him now.... Funny, he actually admitted that she's growing on him... and the Nissan Stargia with quad turbos plus twin overhead foxtails is'nt mentioned as much... he insisted on replacing the Rotoflex last weekend, and the T/fer case is happening ASAP. - So are tyres. Nothing to do with taking his new girlfriend (human) to the beach with her Tojo-San mates...

We just learn to put up with spending half our 'maintenence' time fixing things that everyone else got sorted out 50+ years ago.

Like headlight beam-switches that need relays, door mechanisms that need regular adjustment, metal that is'nt rust-proofed or even prepped and badly designed, such as the Classic tailgate.
