I have had a Landrover of some kind or the other since the mid eighties, and have driven them on and off since the early 60's when I first started work, worked for a Brisbane dealer, then moved to Sydney to do my tech course in Spare Parts, and for whom did I work, Yup, Leyland and it's branches, I have currently 4 Landrovers in my yard 2x series 1x RRC and a D1,found them more comfortable to drive with my back and leg injuries (old) and can still do 300+klms without to much discomfort.

With sensible maintenance program they are quite reliable.

    cheers

    Smile Smile and wave

    Hey Epic Dragon.
I have experienced the negative attitude towards Land Rovers from the moment I took delivery of my brand new Zambesi silver D2a near on 10 years ago.
I have found it is born out of ignorance mostly. When mine was new a work mate commented that my car would be hopeless off road because it has independent front suspension with no low range. I politely informed him that he was wrong and to have a look under neath.
He did........ohhhhh..........ohhhhhh???????. Ok. Geez, it's built like a brick s__t house!
He was a Patrol driver. You will find that the most of the knockers will be Toyota drivers. Toyota's are over rated, expensive and VERY average.
I have good mates that drive Pajero's and Playdo's and they have great respect and admiration for my Disco. So I guess it just depends on the character of the person in question. All the time rest assure in the knowledge that you chose to own an iconic, advanced, brilliantly designed off road vehicle that the Japanese imitators try to copy, and succeed, only 2-3 years later after the Land Rover.
I am also a Volvo enthusiast and have copped the same unfounded BS from the masses of uneducated bufoons for years so I guess i'm used to it.
Volvo is very similar to L/R, cutting edge tech, safe from inception and hugely under rated. Practical, Solidly engineered to last decades with legendary reliability. (may be the Land Rover differs slightly here!!!)
The masses don't understand so just smile and wave
    Regards
    Robbo

like everything else in life, people are suspicious of things that are different. Different coloured people, religions, etc. You'll find if you actually get to know most of the haters, they are not bad people, just misguided.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I ask them if they have even owned a Landy or even driven one ?? I find a lot of the so-called experts answer NO to both questions.

I think it is a self confidence issue. The need to believe they have the best/most powerful/strongest/most unstoppable, etc. truck.

Don't let them get under your skin

They certainly don't like it when a '56 Series 1 drives around them when they're stuck.

Take it easy, they just don't know.

My 101 gets lots of from Jappers when I am driving around. I must admit I have not suffered the same discrimination as others just good humoured ribbing. Maybe I have been lucky.

Not that this guy was knocking Landys, but it was good to show him up when he claimed "I don't need lockers, I've got an 80 Series"

See for yourself............we had a bit of a laugh, it's always nice to get one back.

Yes but they bombed Maralinga and Emu instead! And helped Len Beadell write interesting books.
