    THAT'S NOT A LONG RANGE FUEL TANK.......

    This is a long range fuel tank. The Crocodile Dundee of fuel tanks. Union Pacific 6900 class diesel locomotive. Powered by two EMD V20 two stroke diesels.

    fuel range

    Ever seen the digital fuel gauge in a Pacific National NR class going when in the 8 th notch going like the clappers up a hill, glad I'm not paying the fuel bill. I remember back in the early '70's when a couple of J class loco's came out of storage for the wheat season we ran them on diesel fuel. Used to use almost a tank of 1500 gallons to go from Bendigo to Korong Vale 50 miles (80 K's), pretty volitile too. Remember when the tank got low when shunting air would get into the fuel line when the fuel in the tank surged then the fire would go out then all quiet then it would relight off the fire bricks with an almighty bang. Scare the bejesus out of you.

    That's girly US gallons Mr. H. I used to travel Normanton-Eromanga-Mel*ourne-Adelaide-Normanton without stopping at a fuel outlet. I used the second of eight compartments as a running tank and still carried 60000 litres.

    I put in 28300 kgs in to my tanks quite regularly.

    I burn about 400lt /100km. That's about two 44s per 100km.

    Avgas? That's approximately 35500 litres; a full road tanker.

    Close enough. A319LR.

    Same body as the A320, just a smidge shorter. Same engines. Extra belly tanks.
