    TC Dylan

So a couple of days ago it was heading for Cairns. Then somewhere between Cairns and Townsville. This morning it was heading for Townsville. Tonight, straight for Ayr.

Makes me down here in Proserpine a little nervous

I've been through a couple of cyclones here in the last few years, and I can categorically say I don't mind the cyclones so much. It's all the tidy up in the yard, under the house, on the deck, in the shed (which is open) and so on which gives me the poops.

Mind you, in the last couple of days I've discovered the whereabouts of quite a few tools that I'd thought I'd lost in the past couple of years.

Best of luck to whomever ends up being in the direct line of sight for Dylan (particularly if it's me), and hope that Dylan takes that 400-500mm of rain he's promising me and takes it far far west where it's needed a little more.

By the looks of it Cat 1 is the most it will probably get to in strength so shouldn't be too much wind damage. Latest predictions show it crossing around the Burdekin area so we will get the strongest winds on the southern side. Hopefully the much needed rain as well. I reckon we have had winds in the vicinity of 40-50 knots over the last 2 days so they probably won't get much stronger. Really big tides over the next few days which could cause a few problems with the heavy rain. I wouldn't like to be living somewhere like Mcewans beach atm. Overall I reckon this TC will be a blessing especially if it continues westwards like they predict.
    Cheers......Brian

Yeah, it's not the wind so much, but the 400-500mm of rain the BOM is predicting. We live between two creeks, both of which back on to hills on the other side. Lucky we're on big stumps.

The real estate agent swore that there was no flooding problem here

So how did all our Ayr/Bowen AULROians fare through Dylan?

Up in Townsville it was carnage galore - a small branch came off one of my natives, and some fine palm leaves landed on our Isuzu. Other than that we got a good half-day of rain and a beaut little breeze!

    I hope everyone fared well.

    Cheers

Bit of a fizzier here, other than a pretty stiff wind last night for a few hours. Lost my entire banana crop, which consists of one underripe hand of about 10 bananas, and have had to prop up a half dozen trees. A few small trees and large branches came down, but no damage. I did have everything packed away in the garage or storeroom, so I'm sure that helped.

Eye of the cyclone ended up going right over our house - those Cyclone chasers were doing a live webcast in the middle of the eye, and realised they were about 200m down the street from our place!

Mt Dalrymple apparently received over 500mm of rain, which is now heading down the Pioneer to Mackay, meeting the king tide ('coward' tide?). There is another low developing out in the coral sea though.
