Back in 88 when I first came to live here , I went into a milk bar for smoko , asked for a pie , I then asked if he had some tomato sauce , he looked at me like I was mad , then said what other sort of sauce is there ? Sauce is free at Maccas ,you do have to ask .
Ahhhhh....but now we have a debate on our hands as to the actual cost of the sauce he is using offset against what he would have paid for sachets......but what about the extra cost of fuel from carrying that excess weight of a 500ml bottle of finest Heinz tomato ketchup in the glovebox for the last 10 years......now riddle me that !Quote:

Don't have salt in the house. Actually eat pies without sauce (a good pie shouldn't need it), but I will stick to having food with my pepper.
My lady prises the pastry top off the pie then applies the sauce to the filling, puts the lid back on, bites in and spills half the content then looks at me with a "Gee, I didn't know it was going to do that" look.
I have a very simple answer to your riddle, if he's too tight to buy sachets of sauce, he's too tight to buy anything more than Aldi home brand, so Heinz is out... considering a 500mL bottle of Colway (the Aldi brand) is $1.49 (I believe) then it's a considerable saving... it's half a litre vs. 6 sachets!Quote:

I enjoy a good pie about once a month :) from my local pie shop,they make their pies with real meat,and very little gravy,my favourite is Beef,Bacon & Cheese,at about $4.95 a pop,no need for sauce as it spoils it,locally made by a very successful bakery on the Island,makes those from a well known S.E.Qld chain seem pretty ordinary.
I buy once a month only because I could become a daily eater and both my waist and wallet would suffer.
Is the little pie shop in Port Douglas still there?
Moccas ('s?). It had just a little opening on the main street as I recall.
Now they had nice pies that definately needed no sauce. :D

He sold out daily. I grew up on them. I used to go fishing off the old sugar wharf as a kid and get a Mocca pie for lunch. It has changed address a few times since Mocca was alive. The original old shop is now a big block of shops. The new shop is just off the main drag. They still taste the same. I had one a few weeks ago and got free sauce. Best pies ever.
