You are racist if you believe they behaved as they did because they were Asian.
You are not racist if you believe they behaved as they did because they were inconsiderate.
Simple really. You decide.
Like half of Melbourne, I was at the local pool with mrs and kids today to cool off. 5 mins after putting our gear on one of the last spare spots on one of the benches I come back (to put my thongs underneath) and low and behold while no one is present all the gear (ours and maybe three other families) has been pushed to one end and an Asian family has plonked their bags, esky and towels on the bench. Cleverly (not sure?), they also left on guard 70YO grandpa on a chair in front of it all.
So the question now is... am I racist to say:
"In this country...<Insert whatever nonracial, non abusive, query or comment you like>..."?
BTW, we hired a locker for the bulk of our gear and I didn't temper my actual question as well as I would have liked. The family concerned completely left the area about 15 mins later making me feel like a real mongrel.
Hoo-Roo,
Dave.

Well Im Racist then. There are many cultural differences that repeat themselves time and time again, and it can be put hand in hand with race. I dont think them super bad people for being the way they are. We are the way we are (good and bad) from our up bringing and geograpghy, just as they are.
Could it be these days that when, in our mind at least, we see, for example, Asians hogging the seats at the pool a lot, is is not because they a Asian, but because there is actually a very high percentage of them around now, so it is more obvious, whereas if they were white we would just think 'dumb bogans' and move on? Nt sure if that makes sense, is hard to know whether you are thinking racistly or not sometimes.
Fair enough. But is calling a spade a spade racist?
Or, is it integral in a lot of the Asian (and perhaps middle eastern) cultures to take (my space or perhaps my turn in a queue) when obviously others are there before them?
Again I ask, am I racist for saying "In this country..."?
Hoo-Roo,
Dave.
I have to agree. i don't believe that I am a racist but certain cultures that have chosen to live here certainly have a different way of doing things to what I would consider normal and polite. I was in Melbourne at Christmas and we braved the Christmas shopping with a newborn and a 15 month old child. Have you any idea how many people of an Asian background choose to park in the parks marked for parents with prams? I couldn't believe as we were leaving I was placing shopping and pram in the car and this car was waiting impatiently for the carpark that was clearly marked for parents with prams. It was an Asian couple minus kids. I think they understood me clearly when I walked over and explained that this car park wasn't for them. I have seen them parking in disabled quite often too. My wife gets most upset with me when I question them. Maybe a few lessons on manners on a citizenship application would be in order. Yes I have seen people from a European background do this as well but in my experience Asians are the worst offenders. This is not racism. It is an observation.

I think that deep inside humans are racists, they do not like to live with people that because their culture or education it is different to the one that they have brought up.
The only difference is that some are more tolerate to not show up their dislike for the wog( ops!! "new Australian) that make them uncomfortable![]()
It is a state of mind.
But there is also a lot of rubbish PC stuff around these days that if you disagree with something then you are therefore a "racist".
eg You don't agree with giving away vast tracts of land for exclusive aboriginal control? Oh, you must be a racist.
Oh you don't think it's OK for Muslims to opress women.... you must be a racist.
And so on.
It is a very overused and inaptly used word.

however if you pronounce the name of our country as "straya" and enjoy beer from green cans ... you are more likely to be racist than the general population....![]()
