Yes a Golf, getting an iPod connection today, already has bluetooth, didn't come with cruise, so looking into an after market kit, lots of kits around for the Golf and they look factory too, that's about it for accessories.

It's got some torque and gets up and goes, surprising how quick it is.

If it is the 1.9 Pumpe Düse diesel with a DSG, I've got a high end BSR tuning remap and handheld OBD reflash tool left over from when I sold my Golf. It took power from 77kW to 103 and torque from 250Nm to 325 which brings it equal to the 2.0 Common Rail engine. Made a really nice difference.

Thanks, have no idea what type of engine it is, it's a 1.9l 6 speed manual base model, it's fine for what we are using it for, we do want to get a diagnostic tool for it though, to calibrate the speedo for one and for anytime it may throw up a fault, being the base model I don't see that being too much of a problem hopefully.

I found that in the New Zealand winter (which of course does not strictly apply to Australia) that the new TDI take 9 to 10 km to warm up and when its cold its really annoying.
Apparently it is because new TDIs are super efficient and do not generate much "waste" heat.
we get around zero degrees here and sometimes the car will not reach full temperature.
I have a Holden 2013 Cruze diesel ( it was 40% off list price OK ) and my friends have Peugeot and VW golfs all 2012 and newer and all have the same "problem" although the Peugeot has a little diesel pre heater apparently and is not so bad.
not sure if the slow warm up would affect engine life??

There is an electric heater which fits into the heater box providing about 1kw of heat. I have one and will be installing shortly.

Our Golf is a 2007 model, 4c is the coldest we get here in winter(Illawarra) but 0c is common in the west suburbs of Sydney, Yorkie had the same model Golf as us and he lived in Blacktown where 0c and below is common, never mentioned any problems with his Golf.

We get the same cold weather here in Australia.

There is a guy in Melbourne who has produced a nice write-up for his old golf and new Skoda superb.

I get -8C every winter, some days in winter don't get above -2C and my tdi needs ~25km driving to get the interior warm. I run a carpet square over the intercooler in the coldest months which pushes intake temps up by about 10C and gets the engine up to temp a few km sooner.
