Hyundai offer very good warranties on their vehicles, so if you combined that with a fixed price servicing plan you could be on a good thing.
Ford Focus diesel is also a good thing.
How about a Peugeot? Excellent diesel motors.

Does anyone know a list anywhere of small diesel manuals on offer (past 8-10 years).
So many of them are sold as auto/DSG only on the diesel version which is extremely annoying.

SubscriberI found our manual by going into carsales and did it that way, pick the car (in our case Hatch, small), pick the fuel, then transmission, price and a whole range of models came up, all manual, diesel, hatches, Golf, Peogot, Holden, Ford, Hyundi, and so on.Originally Posted by isuzurover

The 4wds golf, passat and Octavia were only manual until about 2009.
Ford Focus was a manual. We got about 1000km a tank out of the one we flogged around the UK for three weeks.
