    EARLY CHINESE NAMES IN AUS

    Looking at an old grave register from the late 1800s to early 1900s and noticed some chinese names starting with AH,as in ah po,ah ching,ah wang ect.Have never seen or heard names like this for years.Did a google search as to why,no luck.Maybe mao banned these names as imperialistic?Does anyone knowAre there some chinese members or does someone know anyone who may know the answer?

    They were part of the Ah dynasty that dated back to the 6th century.

    They had some better known relatives:

    Ah Choo
    Ah Sole
    And Ah Bouttime

    Edward "Ned" Kelly had a run in with an "Ah ****"
    True story.
    Google it. Very interesting. I'm sure Ned would have said, AHHHH FOOOOK!

    Pity I can not post the actual name of this Chinese person because of the swear filter. Ah ****.!! How can members google the story of Ned's run in with Ah Foook when they can't see what the surname is??? That is , Ah F double o k.

    Met an Ah Quee from around Normanton Karumba area. He was a reservist with 51 FNQR. Very industrious bloke. He used to maintain a lot of the tinnies and outboards that they used up there when he wasn't fishing. He was a descendent from the Gold Rush days.

    There was a very successful business man in Longreach, Fred Ah Foo who later changed his name to Affoo. He later in life owned a lot of rental property in Brisbane.
