    Fire near Dunedoo

Yesterday afternoon I got a phone call from the captain of a nearby brigade to go up the hill and see where the smoke was coming from. I had a good look round, and decided that most of it was from Victoria, but none from round here. I don't have a good view from the hill to the east, but he did say there was a fire north of Dunedoo. From the house I found I could see that.

This morning I have learned that it is only 8km of bush east of a niece's place. It is listed as "being controlled", and the wind is easterly. They are preparing the house and putting valuables in the car. She did not go to work today.

The fire should not affect the highway (if the forecast wind direction is anywhere near correct - it will blow away from the highway. It is supposed to rain over the weekend, starting Friday or even tonight, so the driving may not be too flash.

We still have lots of that smoke around here.

Fires in the Snowy River valley are surrounded by CFA tankers and dozers, We can't get at it at the moment, waiting for it to show itself. Lots of dozed control lines cut.

Fires are 10km to the SE from me.

You are welcome to as much of the smoke as you would like.

Had a millimetre of rain overnight, may get more today. Should damp things down a bit, but won't put it out.

Rain is good, with some luck you'll get more and maybe even enough to help the farmers west of the Blue Mountains.

If the RFS website is to be believed, this fire near Dunedoo has not changed its perimeter in the time between its update this morning and lunchtime. Still listed as "being controlled".

We are still waiting for fires in our area-- not that we want them. but the ground is heavy with leaf litter.

    So good luck.
