    Kangaroo strike- Navara

Thought I should post up some pics of what a roo strike can do, at about 85kph. My Neice's fiancé hit a roo in his new Navara about 8am the other side of Dubbo.
You have to wonder damage what a proper bar would have prevented..

Doesn't look too bad here ...

It took out the intercooler, oil cooler & radiator

Poor bugger! At least the air bags didn't deploy by the look of it.

Similar happened not long ago to a mate of mine.
Over 10 grand damage to a 15 grand vehicle. And he'd only had the car for less than 2 weeks, he's now got a roo bar fitted and not even seen a roo close to any road since.

You just cant beat having the right bar on your vehicle.....I have hit 4 roos on my travels....good hits too.....but no damage to my ARB bar.

I do recommend you inspect the mounting bolts after a hit though.....I found mine starting to shear.

I met an old bloke in Fowlers Bay SA last year with a very well dented 300Tdi 130.
He said he'd never hit a roo in about 380K but all the damage was from side strikes by roos on the road.
Not bad insurance though having a bar, you never can tell what the hoppers are going to do.

Quite a common occurrence on bush roads when the grass is long. The roos are feeding in the grass beside the roads and won't hop until you are almost upon them, then they often hop straight into the side of the vehicle as they come out of the long grass. An old Falcon ute I owned years ago had a few dents down the drivers side from this. Gives you a bit of a fright when it happens, even though you are expecting it.

These things do work, but you need to check the brands, not sure of this one just using as an example.

Hopper Stopper GWS Animal Warning System FOR Kangaroos Made IN THE USA Shoo ROO | eBay

Or if you have more money you could go for this

SHU ROO MK4 HI Frequency Vehicle Protection FOR ALL Vehicles Shoo ROO Radar | eBay

If it's a small car that cant really take a bar, these things do offer some protection.

Not just in long grass. On the road to town part of it has bush on the right, open paddock on the left - one hit the 110 just behind the LH back wheel while I was doing about 15k letting his mates cross in front of me. A few weeks ago I got damage to the RH front flare, folding step and sill panel from one that ran into the side of me when I was doing 100k on the highway.

But the side impacts do relatively little damage compared to a frontal impact, so the bar is well worthwhile.
