    Club plates insurance

I currently insure my '99 Defender @ $22,000 value which costs $57.00/ month.
I want to move my '85 County over to club plates & after some extensive questioning from Shannons move its insurance over to them @ $35.00 a month for agreed value of $8,000. They also offered a $35.00 discount on the Defender for both
I don't think the girl quite understood that, on club plates, it will only get driven a max of 90 days a year,
Is what they quote normal? Seems pretty high considering there is a quarter of the risk. Its garaged, which was one of the questions..
Should I shop around? Who recognizes club rego's??

So does that mean that for $57 a month you get both covered? Doesn't sound that bad.

You may only be able to drive it for 90 days a year, but it is covered for fire and theft 365 days a year.

BTW would it be $89 / month for both including $2.91/month discount for the Defender.

I know that with NRMA Classic, the whole comprehensive policy is only just above $100 p/a on $10,000 and Shannons in NSW is similar priced, so I can't see Vic being that much different. Although that said, I have heard on the grapevine that VicRoads is unhappy with the performance of the 45/90 day log book scheme. Perhaps it is being used by non enthusiasts for cheap rego on poorly maintained cars and the crash rate is showing up in the statistics.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

My Shannons policy for my ute is restricted based on the number of km I am doing. I pay about $250 a year based on 3000KM usage. Its on full rego though

We pay $640.37 a year for 3 vehicles with Shannons, 2 on club plates and 1 my daily driver, which is the most expensive to insure.

    It's an age thing.

Cars from the 50's and 60's through shannons are really cheap, I'm sure it's to do with the fact cars from the 80's are still viable daily drivers ..... so will be driven far more often.

My '60s Citroens D's are about $70bux a year full comprehensive through shannons .... The '85 Rangie and Citroen CX GTi Turbo are several hundred....

A good example would be a Citroen 2cv.

I'm sure if I got a quote for my mother 1984 model 2cv ..... it would be several hundred. If I got a quote for a 1960 model 2cv ( basically the identical car) I have no doubt it would be about $70 a year.... There quote model appears to massively reduce the cost of older vehicles, even if the vehicles value is large.

It would be interesting to get a quote on a 1970 Range Rover and 1988 Range Rover (the early one being worth far more) and see what the difference is.

Yes, $89 for both all up. It seems that I need to query the second charge as it is hardly used & barricaded in the garage mostly.
Maybe the girl misunderstood my answer to the question "does it have any anti theft devices?" I said, yes, its a Land Rover

The reason I chased up the club plates prospect was seeing oldies in their Kingswoods, you name it 70's car, up at the shops.

Maybe the option is getting around on the pensioners forums??

I have my 2a on Historic Plates (club plates) but in Qld one needs to be a member of a recognised vehicle club, the club that I belong to has a trip number system (Military Jeep Club of Queensland), so anybody wishing to use a vehicle for a trip has to apply to the club's trip co-ordinator,if it is a club run, such as the upcoming Corowa Military meet in Victoria, then the club has issued a trip number which each member will carry a copy of.
But with Qld Historic ("S" plate "Special Interest Vehicle") there is no limit on the distance or time providing the owner/driver has his trip No. or Authority, my 2a is on personalised plates so it does not standout as much as the "S" plate

My RRC is on Pensioner rego, cheaper than full Qld rego, but her 99 D1 300TDI does cost $663.75 and is due in 6 days, that is why I will not be at Corowa

    cheers

I thought it would be because you would get lost looking for it. Corowa is in NSW!
