From 1 March 2014, the Interim Farm Household Allowance will replace the Transitional Farm Family Payment (TFFP).

The Interim Farm Household Allowance has a higher assets threshold than TFFP, which will allow more Australian farmers who are experiencing financial hardship the opportunity to get access to assistance when they need it.

The Interim Farm Household Allowance will be available Australia-wide to farmers and farm families. They’ll also receive a Health Care Card to help subsidise living expenses.

General Manager for the Participation Division, Catherine Rule said this means Australian farmers can access financial assistance more easily in their time of need.

“Farmers who weren’t eligible for TFFP previously may be able to get the Interim Farm Household Allowance and we’re encouraging them to check their eligibility,” Catherine said.

“Those who are currently receiving TFFP will automatically transfer to the Interim Farm Household Allowance from 1 March 2014.
