I just wonder how "easy" will be to work on it.
Perhaps to replace the alternator the engine have to come out?
The Amarok posted below has had a 4.2-liter V8 turbodiesel engine squeezed somehow under the bonnet, making 410 HP and nearly 1,000 Nm of torque, 930 to be more exact (686 lb-ft).
Hooked up to the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, the car is capable of reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in just six seconds and then go all the way up to a top speed of 222 km/h (139 mph).
To make sure you can also have fun behind the wheel of this beauty, the MTM crew got rid of the leaf springs at the back and replaced them with a Panhard rod combined with air springs. Of course, since the power increase is substantial, the brakes also had to be replaced, the MTM version now sporting 405x36 mm discs up front, sitting behind BBS SV wheels wrapped, in turn, in 295/40/R22 Michelin Latitude tires.

Yes very impressive but why?
If you want a muscle car buy an HSV commodore, I'm sure it will be cheaper and handle way better than that.
That car will clearly never go offroad or carry any kind of real payload.
So they put the an A8 tdi quattro drivetrain into an Amarok.
Kind of interesting. But I'm not sure why they did it. Chopping a V8 tdi Q7 or Toureg into a ute would give a similar result.
Clearly
I don't get it, in the same way I don't get a Porsche Cayenne. If I want a sports car I will buy a Porsche Cayman (or 911 if I could afford it). If I want a luxury 4wd which will go offroad I will buy a Range Rover or Discovery.
A Porsche Cayenne is fast but will never handle like a Cayman and it is 4wd but it will never go up a track like a Range Rover or Discovery.
Its not a lot of performance from what is a lot of engine.
The SQ5 3 litre diesel in their full body wagon has a lot less power and torque and does 0-100 in 5.1 secs.
Because you're in a 4WD it doesn't mean that you want to drive an underpowered dog of a thing. Some people want and expect performance from the vehicle, its not a case where you can only have 4WD or perfomance, not both. You can have both and these days there is no reason to not have both anymore. Thank god vehicles have evolved since the series LandRover.

It makes about as much sense as those stupid compact awd suv type things. its not a sports car its not a real ute what the hell is this thing? nothing more than a engineer showing off. i personally dont get these type of cars. the chassis will never have the driving dynamics to suit the performance of this engine and it is not a load carrier. but people will buy it!!! the amount of jap dual cab 4x4s with shiny 20 inch rims and low profile tyres and hard tray covers that lets you put stuff all in the back makes me think they will sell a few. chuck in a large tub of hair product you cant go wrong!!!
I'd be surprised if they actually bothered importing them to Aus. The market for such a vehicle would / is so small that I'd very much doubt it would be worth VW's time.
AnDrew said it - there are better high performance 4x4s. I think you'd have to be a bit of a numpty to choose that particular one.
