Should be able to check Vin details through REVS (Register of Encumbered Vehicles), for a small fee they do a background check, Google REVS (NSW), good luck, Regards Frank.
I'm a US based Land Rover importer. I have been approached by a fellow in Texas who bought a CKD 109 VIN 34706588G that we think was registered last in NSW.
He bought the truck on Ebay Australia in Jan 2010. The item number back then was 110482260315. The sellers ID was kt040868. The truck's location was Bathhurst NSW. The buyer had the truck picked up and its now in S.Australia. @ the time it was picked up the seller removed the registration plates since he knew it was being exported. The only hint I have @ the original reg is a front plate as seen in the 4 yr old ebay listing. Unfortunately there is a roo bar blocking the plate.
We are guessing the plate is HHT374 or HHT574 but when I look those up in the NSW plate check I get no hit.
My problem is I'm trying to export the truck and have no registration/bill of sale aside from the ebay auction. Is it possible to look a vehicle history up by VIN ? Need something concrete in order to export it from Oz and import it here.
I'm looking for any information/ suggestions/sarcasm or help you fellows might offer. Anyone recognize the old girl by chance ? I have more pictures if anyone thinks posting them will help.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Doug Crowther

Tried that and got no hit
response was
"NEVDIS Vehicle Notification:Help
No vehicles found. NEVDIS has responded with no vehicle information for this serial number. This is possibly due to an error in the serial number you entered."
Guessing the system simply doesn't recognize the early vin.
The vin decodes correctly
347 Model: Land Rover, Series IIA
Body type: Basic
Wheel base: 109in
Engine: 6-cylinder
Model years: 1966-1971
Destination: Completely knocked down (CKD), right-hand drive (RHD)
06588 Serial number
G Design: Six significant design modifications
Suffix used from April 1969 till October 1971
Any other possibilities ? I have smoke coming out of my ears trying to find a way to document the truck sufficiently to ship it.
Any chance of going back to the seller and getting a sales receipt which identifies him as the seller and maybe a statutory declaration setting out the vehicle and sale details? Is this an issue of ownership or of vehicle identity (or both?)
That's a tough one.
REVS is only for vehicles under finance, unlikely here.
The seller would have handed in the plates to get a refund of unused compulsory insurance. What there is of the phone number is consistent with Bathurst.
The chassis number isn't in the new format, suggesting it has been continually registered. The HHT xxx plates are consistent with that era.
Handing over the rego certificate on sale is normal procedure. The seller "may" have offered to mail out the rego certificate. Does the buyer remember anything like that?
Otherwise I'd suggest the buyer snaps a good quality image of rego sticker/s on the windscreen. The older the better. Old stickers will have the details needed.
Or, are there any service stickers on it? The workshop concerned might still have records.

G'Day Doug.
If you (or an agent) can get access to the vehicle:
surely the shadow of the plates would still be there? As in the dust collected behind the pressed numbers. I have seen some that were 10 yrs old!
Have them check for stickers/ service records as suggested above
miscelaneous paperwork in the vehicle
State/ local LR club from the area of sale.
Hope that helps
Cheers, BDave.

[QUOTE=Maryland 110;2105166t. I have emailed Ebay and explained the situation and asked that they put me in touch with the original seller ID- no joy yet.[/QUOTE]
G`day , ( this works for me but i`m signed in there and don`t know if there`s a difference ) if go to Ebay au up in the right top corner past the blue box is advanced , click that , next page left side under members , click find a member .
Type that ID in and it will take you to him but he`s unregistered .
You may be able to use one of the other IDs there that he`s bought from to locate the address .
The 02 63 part phone you have in the pic is the Bathurst area code and you know at least peter so if you have the rest of the phone ?
