Are there no men?

A similar thing happened to my daughter a couple of weeks ago, no-one did a thing... disgusted I rang the bus company and complained, they said there was not much they could do as it needed to be reported there and then.


Ok I said, well then take it on spec that tomorrow I will be with my daughter and if this fellow is on the bus I will take matters into my own hands, I have only one child, I am divorced and single with few responsibilities and will defend her with extreme prejudice so be warned there may be trouble.


Needless to say the police were on the phone a few hours later advising me to calm down..... my reply was to go tell the bus company to deal with there own **** first...... idiot wasn't on the bus and hasn't been seen since.

Can't elaborate much as I don't want to push her for details, no point making her relive the humiliation without any hope of justice. From what she has told me, just one idiot on his own.
The solicitor who got shot dead in Melbourne's CBD for standing up for a woman being physically abused a few years ago probably got into people's psyche a bit. However, it's up to us blokes to man-up and set the tone. Sometimes there are gangs looking for a fight who will bait someone, got to know when to shake your head and walk away, but sometimes it's appropriate to stand up. Very disappointing that no-one did so for my daughter.

I make the following comments as general comments without being a witness to the event:


I understand where your coming from and I would feel the same if it was my daughter. However, having worked in the justice system I generally choose to watch and if it is only verbal I would choose not to step in. Clearly for the perpetrator to act in that way they are either unbalanced, on drugs or both. You don't know how they would react or what weapon they may pull if someone stepped in. I have also seen a lot of lives ruined for spur of the moment acts.

While it is verbal and psychological damage may occur, your daughter still got to walk away. I would encourage her to see it as the perpetrator's problem and seek counseling if required.

Agree. One thing I've learnt from school is to jump on bullies quickly or they think their behaviour is OK and push it further and further. Zero tolerance is the way to go with bullies.

nothing happens cause everyone is to worried about it turning on them or even the victim turning on them with the previous abuser/attacker.


in the old days if something happened you and the other bloke would go outside knock the crap out of each other then come in a buy each other a beer or if no beer the altercation was over, now you go outside wipe the floor with the guy then have him come back an hour later with 20 of his mates to give you a beating, or they go to the cops cause they lost and file assault charges and sue you.


its the same as giving cpr even if you save the person they can sue you so why bother trying

ok, so it was Burke and he was a politician of sorts so probably just as bad.

Burke was quite good, should be more like him.

My brother's approach as a security guard was to let them beat each other up and then throw them all out.

This seems to be the prevailing attitude when it comes to the crunch. The person who verbally assaulted my daughter in public got the tacit approval of everyone present when they failed to stand up.
