    Are there no men?

My daughter came home from university this afternoon visibly upset and burst into tears when asked what was wrong. She is 21 but small for her age, could easily be taken for 17 or 18. She had suffered a verbal tirade of filth and abuse from a male on the train on her way home.
I can understand that there are oxygen-thieving sub-humans out there who will behave in this manner- I regularly come across them in my line of work. What really winds me up is that a carriage full of adult commuters could sit idly by whilst witnessing this, without one person coming to her aid in any way. Our society seems to have gone down the plughole and no-one gives enough of a stuff to stand up. I'd love to tell every man on that train what I think of them. Won't say what I'd do to the other.

Mate, I'm hearing you. My pet hate is the abuse of women, in any way but particularly of a young girl on a train FFS. It's disgusting. Alas we don't know the exact circumstances, could be that there were a bunch of blokes looking to gang up on anyone who intervened? Please elaborate if you can. Glad your daughter is relatively OK.

I am not proud to say it but after a few events in my past I try not to get involved any longer, as one person giving verbal abuse can soon turn into one person and 20 of his mates with big sticks coming after you.

alas I do feel society is to blame.

Sorry to hear of this, I feel for you Pete.

Some blokes just dont deserve to breath. As SB and JSP said, you have to be very careful how you handle these things. I have been in the situation where suddenly several other guys appeared, and wore the brunt of it all.

One can only hope that with all the technoligy today, someone can video it, and pass it on to the authorities. Other than that, one can only hope more than just one bloke will come to the rescue.

When I was at college in the UK I went to study and use a computer at the towns library. I was given a time slot for a computer at a certain desk..

There was a scruffy looking man at the computer and did not look like he was going to budge...I waited for 15minutes before walking up to him and politely advise him that I was waiting to go on the computer...

He let rip at me with a tirade of abuse!!! he called me allsorts.. with in moments a guy jumped up from his computer and basically old the bloke to quit having a go at me and to get off the computer...it the scruffy man then turned to the guy and started on him...

security quickly came and escorted them both out..I tried to tell them that one of the guys was simply standing up to this stranger that took it upon himself to attack me for wanting to go on to the computer. but they wouldnt listen.

I never ever got to thank that bloke......

but perhaps thats why people no longer want to interfere because like the guy that stood up for me he got in to trouble and thrown out of the library and he was doing a good dead well for me anyway.

Interestingly when I got on to the computer after the scruffy man was thrown out..it was online gambling that was on the screen

In the Age of Individualism, as encouraged by our political leaders, selfishness is in favour and collective feelings are discouraged. Fortunately, many people still stick up for others or society would have sunk into total anarchy.

I didn't get my good looks by sitting down & saying nothing. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. If you say nothing, we all lose. It only hurts for a day or two, no big deal. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Are there no men? *waves* yohoo, over here!
    I consider myself the above.
Have regularly stood up and chatted with big and small.
As bob says, If we don't say anything then that is the behaviour we accept for the ones WE love.
I have been in some nasty situations as well, I do not judge those who sit because of trauma they have suffered. But not everyone has that reason though.
    Cheers, BDave.

There's nothing wrong in taking a hiding or two in life especially for the right reasons Hell knows i've had few but i've given as good as i've received on most occasions, If you don't stand up to **** bags, cowards and bullies. What's the point in breathing. I don't give a bugger anymore. Speak up and then get in to 'em.

I suppose i'm feeling like this because an old mates son was killed recently for standing up to a bully. I know the kid died proud.
