I did have no cats, but did have too many introduced pests and now there is;
No mice. ( although Gus did find one in the back of his Series One while camping at my place )

No Rabbits.
No Starlings.
No Sparrows.
No Sky Larks.
No Black Birds.
But now I have too many Cats!

Still got;
Plenty of Plovers.
Plenty of Echidna.
Plenty of Finches.
Plenty of Native Cats. ( Quolls )
Plenty of Native Hens.
Plenty of Tiger Snakes.
Plenty of Grey Goshawks.
Plenty of Rufus Wallabies.
Plenty of Willie Wag Tails.
Plenty of Black Cockatoos.
Plenty of Tasmanian Devils.
Plenty of White Cockatoos.
Plenty of Black Currawongs.
Plenty of Brush Tail Possums.
etc.

But the list of missing native fauna is too long to type here.
The Tasmanian Tiger ( Thylacine ) went missing well before Cats became plentiful.

Bandicoots are one of my favorite natives and are very rarely seen around here now, but they were scarce before the Cats became a problem, mainly due to Farm Dogs killing any that got too close.

Another is the Ring Tailed Possum, they used to be the dominate species amongst the Possums once and now only small pockets of them remain.

If Cats are controlled, remaining in a balance with the introduced vermin, I believe that they have a place in nature.

Not inside, he can be keep in a cat enclosure, HERE are some ideas

In same way that people keep expensive birds in enclosures cat owners can invest in a cat enclosure.
They do not do it because it is easy to let the cat loose, kill native fauna and make a mess in other people gardens.
There are irresponsible selfish, there is not other excuse

Believe it or not, some cats don't want to go outside. We can leave all our doors open, and our 3 Burmese will wander up and sit on the door step. They won't even attempt to get out. If you give them a gentle nudge with your foot, they freak out and run back inside.

We do have a mog that likes to go outside though, but she comes in on her own ice afternoon. If a 24 hour curfew comes in in our shire, no dramas, I'll make the back yard cat proof.

In QLD cats are to stay on the property or they can be impounded. That being said anyone tried to catch a cat that doesn't want to be caught?

For every 20 cats we remove from traps, 1 owner will come forward. Unable to rehome a cat up here as the shelter is always full and they can't take any more. Jump on FB and there are at least half a dozen every night for free, not registered or chipped as required by legislation.

When the owner comes to collect their cat from council they would have you believe this was the first indiscretion the cat has ever made, and the first time it has ever been off their property. Or the best one I hear "it was on the end of my bed when I went to sleep, and was there when I woke up so obviously the cat never moved"

I am occasionally privy to autopsies etc conducted by Uni students, I have never seen one where there was only Whiskas in there, all the cats stomach contents I have seen have been supplemented by lizards, frogs, birds etc.

They are natural born killers, all but the 0.01 percent that are kept inside or in runs by responsible pet owners.

I have seen that behaviour in another introduced species. Pigs that were raised in an intensive piggery and the performance they put up when they are moved outside for the first time is quite comical.

Anything in excess isn't good for the environment, whether it's water, frost or any one species of animal. ( Humans???? )

Sorry Pal, but animals were not put on the planet to be put in enclosures/glorified cages to suit humans, even birds.
Cats have there place on the food chain, like it or not, yes they were introduced to Australia but thats the way it is, as were many other animals many yrs ago out of your & my control.
They already is a night time curfew to be inside at night when there natural hunting skills kick in....
This is just my opinion, but i am entitled to it as you are yours

My neighbors have dogs either side, also chickens on 1, there is a good chance that 1 of the 2 dogs will bark during the night ,sometimes ongoing, there is also noise from the chickens/rooster. we don't complain as thats life.....

My cats do a great job keeping the rats/mice/young rabbits under control around here.... very rare to see them with a bird or anything else
