Dragon, how do you think other feral animals are controlled? I can tell you they aren't hugged to death. Shooting is a much more human way of controlling feral animal populations than any other. You ever seen a fox die from 1080?

Animals need to be treated humanely BUT feral animals still need to be controlled. As do some native animals (such as Kangaroo's at Puckapunyal etc)

Cats hunt for fun. They should be in a controlled environment (as should dogs) to prevent them killing our small native animals. The kiwi's have no small native animals left due to stoats, weasels etc. Feral cats particularly will do a similar thing here if not controlled appropriately.

LOL yeah i know that gusthedog,i was not refering to feral cats. but for peoples pet cats. as i took that original comment to refer to pets not ferals. i live in the country. i know a lot about fox's, feral cats, etc and how shooting those is the best way to control the population humanely.there is nothing wrong with that. this thread is about peoples pets though. not the feral ones which are a different kettle of fish. i do not think its right to threaten peoples pets, whether it is serious or not it is not funny. i am a responsible pet owner. and i do nto let my cats wander. for their own protection and the protection of the wild life. they are also all desexed so should for what ever reason they ever get out they do not add to the population. I think it is irresponsible to let cats wander. there are things now where they cannot get out of the back yard. and a cat run provides ample space and fun for them. they are not caged. they are happy. and the wildlife is happy, and the people who hate cats are happy. which is fair enough, other people should not have to deal with pets that are not theirs. out here where i live, people seem to suck at keeping their dogs safe in secure yards. a result of which was the brutal loss of my pet sheep whom i had raised from newborn.
